Hello,

Been looking at the monitor audio silver 200 7G speakers and silver 7g 250 centre with some rear speakers as well, where I am struggling is with the sub. Given the monitor audio silver gets great reviews and assume is pretty popular there seems to be very few first hand reviews of the Silver W12 6g sub in a silver setup, I presume they are all well matched components. I have a room that is 3.5 wide where av setup is going and with everything on that wall have room for one sub (corner placement) , the room is approx 10m long (kitchen diner) the MLP is 2.9m from wall with speakers and ceilings that slope are approx 3.2m at highest point. Probably watch as much TV as will be listening to music, TV will be mainly box sets with the odd movie thrown in.

Does anyone have a Silver W12 6g sub that can comment on how they perform. The other obvious candidate that come across is the SVS SB2000 Pro which is similar price point - everyone say SVS will leave the W12 for dead but wander if they have been heard in comparison ? Appreciate that SVS are specialist sub manufacturers but is the W12 really that much worse ?

I am not the sort of person to fine tune settings so would the W12 with it's 3 EQ modes and auto position correction (assume av amp can also do this) be of benefit ?

Any comments greatly appreciated,

Many thanks,

Lawrence

The SVS is even better value against the MA if you can find it in stock pre-price increase and you know who to ask 😉 😀 😉

The app is excellent on the SVS too, some use it just for set up while seated in the MLP, others use it all the time with two or three different settings depending on the genre / audio requirement from it.

If its in budget SVS is definately the preferred choice.

Thanks for quick reply, haven't done the big hunt around yet (in UK) but on richer sounds the SVS SB2000 pro in gloss white is £20 cheaper than the Monitor Audio Silver W12 6G so not a lot between them on price be great to hear from anyone who has the W12 6G in a silver setup and auditioned the SVS sub, going to try and do that but nothing close by.

Many thanks,

Lawrence

Most of us site sponsors will do you a deal better than RS.

If you want a non-gloss those of us who have stock should be able offer some mega deals.

Unfortunately it would be the gloss white that I am after as all the other speakers/decor is white,

Many thanks,

Lawrence

RS will price match anywhere you go to be honest, they've always done it and the customer service is always spot on.

Due to short warranty and some amp issues i would skip W12. You don`t want to be throwing 300-400£ for a new amp after couple years what we have seen with Silver subs. Some member bought new Silver amp and it has 1year warranty. That is ridiculous!!! We already know the W12 can´t compete performance wise with the SVS/Arendal products. The pros it has is the small size, matching finish and the APC bass eq flattening the room response (if you have Audussey XT32, Dirac, ARC Genesis then this not required). The 3 EQ modes are nearly useless, it just boosts the bass at certain frequencies, but also then robs some extension. I would see this product more at home in smaller room and perhaps on hifi system.

Which av-receiver you got? You have decent sized room 35sqm. Probably aren`t after the most impactfull experience with blockbuster movies at high volume as per your decision to look the smaller sealed subwoofer and you are likely size limited physically or by wife?

SB2000 Pro gloss white 999£ cheapest i see at few dealers. 1079£ in most places.

If you would be open to matte white finish then i would consider Arendal 1961 1S over SVS as you can get it for ~700£, very similar performing product with high build quality and 5year warranty. The sad part is you would have to make the order TODAY as the prices will be raised tomorrow 1.11 . This happened for SVS few weeks ago and now for many others as the shipping costs has jumped quite a bit. It would be 300£ savings if the gloss finish is not must have.

And also the taller vented box in matte white at 844£, this would be more ideal for your room with movies in mind, but it might be too large.

Arendal has the larger sealed 1723 1S flagship model in gloss white. 1182£ for today and then price goes up ~10-15% (?). You get 13,8" driver with 800w amp and larger cabinet plus phone app control. The only "caveat" could be the right side firing driver depending how much space you have to next object, driver needs about 5-10cm clearance. However it`s narrow: 49.2H x 33.5W x 45.0D cm

I would think the W12 would be perfect for your setup. I have been running a RS W12 for 14 years and it has performed perfectly. You definitely don't need anymore power !! The W12 is capable of shaking your house.

I had a MA Silver set up for the last 3 years (500s, C350, FX and W12). It was a good setup. it was only good until I realised the W12 was the weak link in my set up and when I tried different brands of Subs - I was blown away and suddenly realised what I had been missing. You can see from my signature that I moved to Arendal sub and ran like this for the last 12 months. It totally transformed the setup. Now I've gone all-in with Arendal this month. So whether its SVS or Adrenal.. for a similar price point there are other products which are 2x better.
