    Hi,

I recently purchased a MA GR Centre speaker for my system. I'm just breaking it in, used less than 10hrs. It sounds good, but when i put my ear to it, it seems like one of the drivers is playing more than the other. The other one appears to be playing some of the lower frequencies, but is harder to detect.

Not sure if they're supposed to be playing the same frequency or not? If they are then it may be faulty. Anyone know about this? If they're supposed to play different frequencies then that's cool. I'm just being paranoid I think.

    cheers,

    John

I assume you mean the two main drivers are sounding different to each other, not just different to the tweeter that's in the middle of them? Forgive me if that's a stupid question, just covering all the bases:)

I would have thought that the two main drivers should have exactly the same output.

both mid/bass drivers should sound the same.........freqs, volume etc....

i'd get it checked out at a dealer......

oh, try it on another channel first on your amp just to make sure.....(its an LCR design so can be used on the front left or right as well as centre but use music as a movie track might not contain enough info)

I was talking about the two main drivers, not the tweater. That would be funny though.

Turns out that the two drivers are supposed to play different frequencies

    Monitor Audio USA:
"It looks like a symmetrical array with matching midranges on either side of the tweeter, but is actually two mid/bass drivers tuned to different frequencies that work together to increase overall power-handling. This design is also said to minimize any of the lobing effects that can occur when you place identical midrange drivers on either side of a tweeter."

i had the exact thought myself so emailed monitor audio and got this response

    Dear Dan,

Let me put your mind ar rest. This is exactly how the gold centre was configured when it was designed and one of the reasons it sounds so good. Although both drivers look identical, electronically via the crossover they are configured differently so that the left driver just does lower bass, and the right does upper bass and mid.

You will notice slightly more clarity if you remove the tweeter mesh from the tweeter. However this isnt advisable if you have small children!!

Please come back to me with any other queries.

    Best Wishes
