Monitor Audio Bronze FX

Hello all!

I'm looking to get a 5.1 speaker set for a room about 3.5m x 5m. I can get a good deal on the monitor audio bronze package. It looks the business! My only concern is that my back wall, which is right behind the couch and drops back about 8" on the right side. If I wall mount the bronze fx surround speakers the right one will be slightly further back than the left one. Will this make much of a difference? I know they have a bipole diffuse sound mode, will this help? Or should I look at a stand mountable surround speaker that I can place symmetrically left and right?

Thanks for any help!

it should be ok as long as you adjust the distance and levels on the amp to compensate. I have the BX2 as preferred these to the FX when i demoed and my rear left is a good 1.5 meter further away than my rear right but i adjusted settings and it sounds fine, surround flows behind well.

Thanks Mike.

Looks like I'm going to have to stand mount them either way as the other half has banned any wall mounting. I'm being offered the Bronze 1's instead of the FX if I want, any thoughts on that? The FX look like they'd be ungainly on stands but would hate to miss out if they're much superior as surrounds.

no probs. Cant really help with the bronze 1 never heard them but, i demoed the FX & BX2s together it was close and sounded near enough the same in the demo room and i did prefer the 2s also the versatility of having another set of speakers rather than specialist surround was appealing

For me the Bronze are a big improvement on the BX they are classier and more versatile with partnering and more forgiving. All round a really impressive range.

Don't know if you've made your decision but my BXFX surrounds are slightly different distances and the room eq sorts it out. I've also tried bx1 in the same positions and it really depends how close they are to your couch. If your surrounds are near to the couch I'd really take a good look at the FX version running in dipole mode. The BX1 were great but if your too close they lack immersion in my opinion

They would be close to the couch alright (about 3 feet away each side). The problem now is that they will have to be stand mounted. The FX look like they'd be a bit ungainly on stands but won't rule them out until I've tried them out in the flesh.

They look pretty smart on the wall though mate, much better than something like the BX1. Mine are in Oak and passed the wife test, pictures in my sig below.

They look great on the walls alright, very unobtrusive! Renting at the moment so probably wouldn't be able to do such a discreet and considered job as you have there. They definitely look better than a wall mounted bookshelf though. Will show herself how good speakers can look and it might sway her. Would aim for a setup like yours either way eventually, it looks the business am very jealous!

Has anybody mounted the bronze FX's on a stand? This would be the only way for me and I'm unsure what stand would be best?

They wouldn't look good, the base is the wrong shape and size and they would be very unstable unless you screwed them to the stand. If you have to go with stands I'd choose another speaker.

I bought the bronze 5.1 package but got the bronze 1's instead of the FX because I had to standmount the surrounds. The 1's are fantastic as surrounds, if I ever get a suitable house will get the FX for 7.1.

Cheers bud. I'm gonna go with the bronze 2 speakers for the fronts and bronze 1's for the rears. The FX are gonna be a nightmare to mount to speaker stands
