    Hi friends,

I hope you can help me to make a better decision.

I am going to buy my first 5.1 system and I still don't know model/brand is suitable for me.

I am gonna put it in my living room which is 22ft x 22ft (estimated only).

I am looking at Monitor Audio Bronze BX5 series and Mordaunt Short Aviano Series.

I have decided to get Onkyo Tx-NR609 for my AV Receiver.

Does anyone of you have similar combination? Or should I look at other alternatives? Any ideas? Frankly speaking, I prefer the Monitor Audio speakers.

Ijust changed from BX's to the RX range but i was hugely impressed with the bx's for the money, they look like a quality speaker and more importantly sound like a quality speaker.

Watching tv and films i used to hear sounds from open space around the room regularly with them and the diffuse sound from the bxfx's is fantastic. It was the first time i'd heard bipole speakers but i dont think now i could go back to direct firing rears again.

In short you can buy the bx's safe in the knowledge your getting a quality speaker for not much money:thumbsup:

    Thanks bro,

    I will go for:

    BX5 For Front
BX1 For Surround (Should I get BX2 instead?)
    BX Center For Center
    BXW10 For Sub

What AV Receiver should I go for?

Suggesting what receiver to buy is a huge question without knowing your budget first.

Speaking personally ive had over the years, sherwood, yamaha, pioneer and my current favorite Onkyo. Onkyo tend to have a very full bodied sound that is absolutely perfect for action films but can also lay the atmosphere down very thick in tense films perfectly.

There's loads out there from all of the above at every price level so to give an opinion we need more info from you:lesson:

For what its worth, if you buy the speakers seperately instead of as a movie package you can ignore the BX sub and get a BK instead, it will completely blow the BX out of the water and it only costs about the same money all in.

The BX range were on sale at various different places when i got mine so i ended up paying less than £550 for the speakers and then £500 for the sub which is about what you pay for the BX package with sub and im positive the BK is much better than the MA offering.

2.0 :) I had denon 1912 but I am switching to onkyo 709 because it allows to use manual EQ and dynamic range compensation at same time.

    Thanks.

I went for a demo and they let me listened to David Foster's concert.

The female vocalist's voice was smooth and clear with Monitor Audio. But the bass of MS's aviano was stronger / powerful.

I read lots of reviews, and all of them saying that BX is a better choice.

BK Electronics. Their Monolith subwoofers are supposed to be one of the best pricr/quality you can can get.

BK subwoofer is not available in my country. Yesterday I went to another dealer to see the demo. They recommended Velodyne Impact 12.

    Hi Bro,

My budget for the AV Receiver is around $500. This afternoon I went to a showroom in town, they told me that Onkyo tend to get heat up pretty fast, so they recommended Denon 1912.

The temperature is around 32 Celsius / 90 Fahrenheit in my country.

Actually I prefer Onkyo 609. Denon is a bit lady-like to me.
