Hi new to the forum however always enjoyed owning good audio equipment for music and film entertainment.
Changing my living room configuration to less noticeable speakers/speaker stand set up. Building tv wall and plan to house some good quality front ported speakers into wall with some quality ceiling speakers as rears as part of 5.1 set up. From what i have read Monitor audio apex look to really good job however be good to hear some opinions from owners who have moved to these from good bookshelf speakers?
I currently am using quad 12L as mains and quad lites for centre and rears.
Probably 60/40 film/music and prefer music in 2 channel when possible.
If not the m.a apex, any other more discreet options?

Plenty of info in there. I’ve been running a stereo pair of A40’s along side a BK Monolith for over 5 years. I enjoy them every day.
    Like you I’m 60/40 movies/music
I’m writing this half way through watching The Greatest Showman which has been quite a showcase!

May I ask how you got them for less? I’m assuming second hand?

I am considering these as although I would love arendals I could do with something that would potentially suit a smaller living room for a future move.

Do these give enough wow factor when it comes to sound?

Also does anywhere actually deliver these? as all the places I have seen is collection only.

Either way they are a little expensive, might wait for a second hand set (considering 3x A40 for LCR and A10's for surround) I would also need to find a good on ceiling option for atmos

I would put together a “I am looking to buy X so just sending some emails to get the best price I can” to a handful of retailers. Suggest you’d be interested in open box or ex demo and see what the come back with. I’d be amazed if anybody charged you full price.
I got a pair of new A40’s for £800 and that wasn’t long after they were released.
    Don’t ask, don’t get.

I’ve read a few people use A10’s for Atmos duties too.

I use A10,s for Atmos as front heights. All I can say is very impressive.

The cabinets of the Apex will be better than most normal box type speakers, without the resonances associated with the usual MDF type materials, so from that point of view, you hear more of what the drivers are actually doing, and less of the cabinet. It’s quite a large mid/bass driver for such a small box too, so you get pretty decent output and presence for the size. From there, it’s down to what you drive them with, where you put them, and how you use them. They’ll certainly be more at home in smaller rooms than much bigger boxes.

Thanks, I will certainly try that as I am looking for doing all this abit later this year so I am in no rush. Most retailers seem to only offer collection which is a pain.

I might look at A10's for atmos too then, I have a length of about 12ft with about 3ft behind the sofa so I was considering 5.1.4

Cool, Do you have them mounted on the ceiling or on the wall at ceiling height? This would be tempting as I could buy those second hand as I wouldn't be as worried about blemishes etc.

Thanks, That is interesting to know. I don't have an amp or anything yet so at least im not tied down to anything yet for what will drive them. I just needed something that would make the movies sound amazing at higher volumes but work well when I need to turn the sound down, Yet also bring out all the little details in the soundtrack. I don't listen anywhere near ref though I don't think.

Btw out of interest does your company do delivery on apex?

I have them attached to the ceiling, didn’t like to take the chance on the wall very close to heating pipes.i was loaned them from Andrew at Quantum AV and took his advice and installed them . Best thing I’ve done.

I’m afraid Apex is a range that’s prohibited from mail order for any Apex dealer. If you were to come and see me to hear them and/or place an order, I can then send them to you, but I can’t just send them from someone just calling me up. If you have an offer of delivery from someone that can be verified, I can then also do it as part of the ‘price match’. It needs to be verifiable though.

Ah ok, That's not too bad then I guess as I could always catch the train or something into Birmingham and have a listen and decide without needing to find a way to get 5 big boxes back  I shall keep it all in mind as it wont be for a couple more months I think.
