    Hi,

I've just ordered one of these for $300 from www.hivizone.com in Hong Kong but they aren't getting them in stock until late June. I decided to go for this player over the Samsung HD931 which doesn't appear to offer the same picture quality as the Momitsu according to reports at AVS Forums. Hope this helps.

I've just ordered one as well, direct from the manufacturer (I think), a company called AZone. This player is OEM'd under numerous different names like Momitsu, Brainwave etc.

The price was $200 but the shipping was another $100 & then I'll undoubtedly get stung for duty too.

FWIW I scoured Europe for these players (especially Germany) but they are all sold out & no one seems to expect new stocks any time soon.

Let me know if you want more info.

    Regards

    Paul

I should have an 880 arriving today from AZone in Taiwan.

Assuming I receive my M1-DA adaptor from Lindy today, I should be able to post results tomorrow from using it with my Toshiba MT8 projector.

Here's the site I bought from by the way:

    www.globalsources.com/azone.co

I have spent last night checking one out and will post a review later this evening.

I plan on selling this one and know of a further one for sale to anyone who is interested. Will post details in AV Hardware Classifieds.

Hi - the 880 is very good indeed for the price - I know this as I'm one of the people selling one.

I bought it as an experiment to see how much better it would be to use DVi to my Toshiba MT8 projector. I thought that it would be streets ahead of the analogue component feed from my current player, a Meridian 598.

The answer is that the two, even connected completely differently, ie one digital, one analogue, are roughly equal in performance.

When you consider the price difference between the two, this is a massive achivement for the 880. I would not have bought my Meridian (probably) had the 880 been available at the time because they are so close in performance on video, although the Meridian pisses all over the 880 on music, and I have a Meridian system anyway.

I'd recommend the 880 for anyone with a plasma or projector with a DVi input - it's well worth the relatively low cost to get such high performance. It's just for me (and Ian Guinan too), having a decent analogue DVD player means that the difference is negligible and therefore we don't need additional DVD players. We also both have DVi HTPCs too so can go this route too.

By the way - if anyone can be bothered to post the ordering details for AZone (on my behalf) they can order for themselves. The players are $200, the courier charge is $100 per player and there is UK customs to pay too, but I don't know what this is yet.... It's a relatively painless process to order and the bird at AZone in Taiwan speaks good English too.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi,

I've just received my V880 from Hivizone but it has a problem with freezing up after a few minutes use - not good. :( Just sent off an e-mail informing them of the problem. I'd read of this freezing up but had assumed it had been cured by newer firmware - mine's dated 15/5/03. I was unable to test the DVI or component outputs as I've not got my plasma yet, so I can't comment on it's scaling and deinterlacing abilities.

    Hi,

You can set the player to any region you want, or set it as "0" which is effectively multi-region. They won't output 576p, but you can scale the output to give 720p, but I've not been able to test this yet - see my previous post. :(

    Hi Rash,

Respectamonkeee says he will test his V880 with a HS10 this weekend. In the meantime, try doing a search over on www.avsforum.com where I'm sure there have been some very positive results of this combination.

OK player has just arrived.....(thanks Paul)

Plugged it in via the DVI and the player has a very sharp looking picture....certianly beating the sony jukebox player i have and also the limit 9900se PS player i have.....

Works in all modes via dvi...480P 720P and 1080i ,the 480p picture looks the sharpest but the 720p and 1080i modes certainly add a little more detail to the pictures but look less sharp(if thats possible) hard to descride
more noticable on screen writing like the FBI warning....looks more detailed but not as sharp.....edge definition maybe...

only had a quick look at the player so far but will test it with any disc peps are intrested in seeing....

it has played every region disc i have put in so far (ie)1,2 4 have no others ..

its has played every VCD i have put in....even 1's that wouldnt on my other players....
not tried divx yet....but will burn some and check

willl check the other inputs later and will report back........
