This is a bit of a long shot but does anyone know of a Java program that can use the irda port on a mobile as a tv (etc) remote control?

I've not found anything on google but have seen suggestions on some j2me developer forums that it's possible.

Failing that does anyone know if irda is physically incompatable before I spend weeks trying to write my own! I've seen one comment that it can be done and another that it can't!

Ach, just found the right search and it doesn't look possible, another fine idea down the toilet!

I also think the IR range of my phone is 30cm, so I'd be better off with a long stick

Still, if anyone thinks of a way of making this happen please post here.
