Probably been asked befoer but I can't find it.

Can I/how can I play m.kv files on the iPhone 4s? I want to stream then through the HDMI cable to play them on my TV but at the moment I can't even add them to iTunes.

Use Rebox.net to repackage into MP4 container then add through iTunes, Rebox only converts the audio into AAC if needed and just copies the H.264 video stream directly into the MP4 container.

You can then play the files on the phone, you could also stream direct from PC with a player like yxplayer2, be sure to enable the use quicktime option in it's settings as this will invoke the iPhone media player for MP4 files otherwise you will not get smooth hardware accelerated playback and less power draw on the battery.

So it should be able to copy 720p and 1080p 'as is' with no video compression?

Use Plex on your Mac to stream 1080p or 720p at home or away. Or use the AVPlayer App to play 720p direct.

No need to convert for either of those options.

How does plex work exactly? I take it no files are stored on the iPhone but you use the app to play directly from the PC.

Plex remuxes (container swap similar to Rebox) or transcodes (converts into H.264 on the fly) the video in real time making it playable on the iOS device however it requires a computer running the Plex media server so without it you cannot access the media.
