My amp has composite and component video in/out connections. I am about to buy a plasma screen to hang on the wall, so dont want too many wires going to it, so thought i would use the component out from my amp. My question is this. Can i use both types of input (composite and component) yet just use the component out or do they all have to match?

    thanks

think they have to match, though MAYBE the new Denon 3803 does some kind of video conversion i.e s-video to component but not 100% sure so please check!

Yes, depends on the amp. Some can convert video signals but most cheaper ones work on seperate busses. If you put composite in you will only get a signal from the composite monitor out. I know the Pioneer Ax10 has video conversion. Check your manual.
