Thanks for the review Ed. I have long been a Mission fan but have found that they have a lack of retail presence, which wasn't the case many years ago. This was disappointing when i wanted to upgrade last year. I couldn't find any of their current range of SX, or VX speakers. So I switched to Monitor Audio which I am very happy with. I hope that Mission do get back on the scene as they have been missed :)

      Hi,
I am aware of the price difference, but can you give any idea how these would stack up against a pair of Q.Acoustic concept 20 speakers.
I need to get another pair of speakers and if these are on a par with the Concept 20's, I could save a heap of money.

One thing you used to find with Mission speakers, was that a year or so in to production they would get heavily discounted, and end up being even more of a bargain! Mind you, that is often the case with other makes as well. If you are making up 5.1 or a 7.1 system, the cost savings really add up.

The specs are the same on missions page for the LX-1 and LX-2. it's not like dynaudio Emit M10 and M20, the bass, midrange unit is 125mm not 100mm bass down to 60 hz not 65 hz and 86.5 db sensitivity not 85db as LX-1

You give it 10 for sound quality and q acoustics 3020 only 9, Is mission LX-2 better than Q Acoustics 3020? I'm interested in upgrading my 3020, not because i don't like them, but to get just a bit more bass without having to buy a subwoofer, since it just don't work for me having a subwoofer

The specs on Mission's site are (I also believe) wrong. I believe they should be:
      LX-1: 25mm tweeter / 10cm mid-bass, 88dB, 100W, 4.1kg, 260mm x 160mm x 235mm
      LX-2: 25mm tweeter / 13cm mid-bass, 86.5dB, 100W, ?? kg, 305mm x 191mm x 250mm

Anyway... between the QA 3020 and the LX-2, I think it's very much a personal decision. I don't think it'd be worth "upgrading" from the QA 3020 to the LX-2 either way, at most it would probably be a side-step to something different. Those few theoretical Hz of bass extension will probably be quite hard to hear to a meaningful extent.

The most realistic way for you to get more bass would be to either get a serious standmount speaker upgrade (the new PMCs sound nice... :D ) or to go for a floorstanding speaker with more cone surface area and larger cabinets. Though unfortunately, a sub would be the easiest and most effective way... :(

85 db for the LX-1 not 88db. German review of the 3020 and it is the 3020 not 3010, look at the frequency response they have measured, i don't have the picture in higher resolution so it can be a little difficult to se it. When i take a youtube bass test the 2010i's that i have peaked at 80/85 hz but also 90hz is above avarage, flat, 3020 with the same test sounds to me like it's flat (which to many people can sound dull, borring even when it doesn't have to be as loud as cerwin vega to sound good)

I suprose theres also something that sounds better with the Mission LX-2 compared to the Q Acoustics 3020, since they as i already mentioned got 10 for sound quality where the Q Acoustics only got 9, just don't know what

Great to see Mission back with a good review - takes me back to the mid eighties where I used to jump on a bus to town to listen to and dream of owning the incredible 780 Argonauts in lasky’s .....

      First impression:

They are without any doubt bigger than Q Acoustics 3020 (bass) almost to big for my desk

More bass Than Q Acoustics 3020 deeper, tighter and more punchy (OMG i finally have decent bass, atleast better than my Q Acoustics 3020,size matters)

Midrange, deep male voices (Leonard cohen) doesn't seem exaggerated as if the speaker are midbass heavy, which they aren't

The top (treble) sounds a bit less detailed and more metalic, atleast with deep purple (but you must remember that they are new, burn in and getting used to a slightly different sound and they are not bright sounding)

I feel they have a bit lower sensitivity (but not much)

Cheaper than Q Acoustics 3020 (atleast where i live which is denmark)

      Hate to say it:

Because of better bass (deep, thight and punchy) and lower price it makes them better than the Q Acoustics 3020

They deserve much more to be the best budget speaker than Wharfedale Diamond 220

Does Q Acoustics do anything better than the Mission LX-2? Not really, they are smaller, more easy to place and have just slightly higher sensitivity

But Q Acoustics 3020 is much more stylish. I don't understand why companies dont make beatiful speakers. Making a stylish speaker does not cost as it would be 20 years earlier.

Why do you think Q Acoustics became so successful in such a short time period?

      Sound + Price + DESIGN ;)

Because of the design, shape the Mission LX-2 has is cheaper to make, it's more traditional

Because it has an clear and open sound (3020)

It wouldn't surprise me if the bass is class leading and they do make a LX-3 LX-4 AND a LX-5 they must have a fantastic bass

They are very heavy speakers despite being budget speakers 200€ her in denmark for the LX-3 17.3 kg, LX-4 25.5kg with only 2x16.5 cm woofers, Q acoustics 3050 also with 2x 16.5 woofers 17.8kg and finally the LX-5 30 kg 3 way 2x 16.5 cm woofers

Gasolin, for desktop use, would you say they are forward sounding or laid back? I don't like in your face sound. I'm about 2.7 ft away of speakers. Has the treble improved? read in hifi news review that with bad pairing could be maybe "hot" or may irritate on top, fatiguing? Thanks if you can answer.

yes (what hifi). you mentioned that maybe due to lack of break in, was more metallic than say 3020 with a particular song. as days passed by, does it still or has it cleared up and non metallic? Thanks for your past response.

no problems, an agressive sounding record will of course not sound as good as well recorded record,cd which is normal for any speakers and deep purple, metallica ......doesn't always sound good, do to how they record the music, not because how the play and sing, it's the loudnesswar and how they mix the musics, does it sound airy and tight, rought and metallic or mabye loud and punchy like edm

If the top is as detailed as the Q Acoustics 3020 i don't know

I don't see any reason to buy the q acoustics 3020 over the Mission LX-2's

Let's say the 3020's do have a slightly more detailed top, i do feel they have higher sensitivity and they are smaller

With the good records,cd's you not only hear the difference in the bass but also the better balance, where the 3020's sounds a little brighter and thinner than the LX-2's and then the lower price, then you realise the LX-2's have what the 3020's lacks, better overall balance and bass, even at a lower price and start to wonder why the 3020's if you have the space for the slightly bigger lx-2's

wanna play loud just crank up the volume, even at "normal" high levels they sound balanced and not slightly bright, thin as the 3020's does

I feel the Q Acoustics 2010i's i have sounds good and for there size good bass, if the 3020 sound better, i want a pair, they do sound better, but realized after a few month they lack bass, it's not more noticeable louder, deeper, punchier then the 2010i's
