I just got the Mission FS1 AV package, with a Yamaha RX-V530RDS amp. The system sounds OK out of the box, but I'm concerned about the centre speaker sound. I can't help thinking that when I turn off the centre speaker the system sounds better! With the centre active the dialog has less body. When I switch it off, the dialog seems fuller and more pleasing. The rear, sub and main speakers seem great - watching Private Ryan reveals excellent surround effects all over the room that I never heard before listening through the TV. I did find, however, that the dialog is hard to catch at times during action scenes but I managed to improve this a little by setting the main speakers back a little further at the sides of the TV. It's still not ideal though, and I can't justify £400 on a system where you miss dialog! I've tried various amp settings, but overall it seems to sound best with all speakers set to large, LFE set to sub+main and the centre speaker +2.0db. Overall, I have to say I'm not exactly 'blown away' by this setup as I hoped I would be - particularly during sequences where the rears are not in use and the sound is all coming from the centre/main speakers - it just sounds a bit 'boxy' I suppose. When all the music and effects kick in, say in Star Wars II clone wars sequences, it sounds very impressive, but for large parts of films where dialog rules it isn't really doing the business. I wondered what other FS1 owners think, and since I have a 14-days exchange period with Richer Sounds I'm also wondering if a conventional system might be a better bet.... dan.
