I am missing ITV4 and ABC1 on the NTL MCE line up, I have manually added them and they now appear in the EPG but with no Guide Data. How do I get the guide Data?

Unfortunately, unless you are using a freeview card - and therefore scanning the signal for the guide - the EPG data, including channel listings, comes from the internet.

It appears that Microsoft/whoever don't bother keeping this up to date :nono:

Try different post codes when you setup the guide. By changing from a Bristol postcode to a Leeds post code, my guide was much much more accurate!

There is a link floating around here somewhere where you can report EPG problems to Microsoft, but I highly doubt they read it....

Isn't that also the case for Freeview! I could swear MCE is downloading from the Internet for my DVB-T card....It must do as its got two weeks of data and is very quick compared to my freeview stb boxes 7 day and slow as snails....

MCE doesn't always match the guide info with the tuned channels so you just need to match them up:

Settings > TV > Guide > Manually add channels to listing > Select the channel & select the listing to match it up with.

MCE does download the guide data from the internet and doesn't get it from the freeview transmission that STB's get it from.

The MCE EPG data is downloaded from the Internet but MCE with a DVB-T card (Freeview) does scan for the channels each time it is used. It then attempts to map on the channel names that it sees in the DVB-T stream & the names of the channels that it has in the EPG.

Please do log these EPG errors with Microsoft. They do claim to take notice http://www.microsoft.com/uk/windowsxp/mediacenter/epg.aspx

Unless you click that link from the MCE PC, they will ignore you...

ITV4 listings are in the system, I have them on my Freeview machine.

Thanks Sanderson you were about 5 mins too late with that message have already now transmitted it from MCE after wondering what was going on, on the laptop. They just probably have not added the listings to cable yet.

PS how are you finding MCE compaired to Tivo these days?

Being optimistic I do wish to believe they take notice of these!

However, when I attempted to log the errors concerning my Bristol post code EPG, it wasn't even in the list!

    Someone somewhere clearly doesn't know....

The're a thread on Usenet that's worth a read - 94% of the submission from that form are ignored because they do not contain the right information, according to MS.

I'm using MCE for 95% of viewing now - higher quality, two tuners. The guide data is comparable (although the MCE equivalent of the 28 day rule is let down by poor metadata). The only downsides are its extreme clumsiness with keeping up with the channel changes on Freeview.
