After doing a "little" bit of research I had decided to buy the Hitachi 42PD-3000, from john Lewis primarily for the 5 year warranty. However due to circumstances I missed the final stocks and it has been withdrawn (sale price was £2500)!!! I've seen it advertised on Internet dealers, but with the standard warranty only.

So do I need to start again or should I go for something different (Didn't want to spend more than £3000)? Seeing all the talk about the "buzz" from this model has put me off a bit. I would still perfer to get a separate tuner box rather than built in tuner. I haven't realy researched getting a screen only as we still want the ability to watch satellite/terrastial TV in different rooms. Can this be overcome with a screen only, Sky reciever and an aerial?

Any advice would be grateful recieved, I'm feeling rather depressed at the thought of starting this process again.

New Hitach models are out now, see if JL have any in stock. Prices seem to be slightly higher than the outgoing model. Alternately, there are some good deals (<£3K) on the Panasonic PA20 at the moment as it's about to be replaced by a new model.

    Thanks
    Do u mean the TH42PA20?

I guess what's muddying the waters a bit for me is the tuner box. I've read various accounts that having one reduces the quality of the picture. I don't want a built in tuner because of all the cabling having to run up a wall ( re-decoration not allowed!) but I still want the ability to watch terrestial TV while the kids are glued to Nickleodeon!
JL do have the new Hitachi but I they are just over £3000. and there doesn't appear to be much info/review data on them as they are still so new.

If you have your heart set an an external tuner then Hitachi and Pioneer are probably your only options. The JL price you have been given is probably before it has been price-matched. Can you find another retailer selling it for <£3K that JL will match?

John Lewis initially wanted £3.5K, for the 42PD3000 but came down to £3K on price match. Even more amazingly they originally wanted £4.5K for the 42PA20 but were prepared to go to £2.8K on price match, a difference of £1700! Shop around and go back to JL if the the 5 yr warranty means a lot to you, but remember warranties are not everything. Some of the specialist retailers supporting this forum could offer better, faster service should anything go wrong.
