I've missed a call 8 days after I had an interview. When I called back I found HR was closed due to half day Friday. This was last Friday. I phoned on Monday but was told guy in charge of recruiting would call me by end of day. No call. Phones again on Tuesday, couldn't get through to HR, receptionist said HR offsite for afternoon.

Found this strange so just never called since. But now Friday has came and was expecting a rejection letter but that hasn't came.

No idea what to do, I was exited last Friday as I know people who work in this factory and I was told phone call will be good news and rejection is by letter.

So not really sure on what to do. They have had all week to return my call

Sounds a shambles of a company if HR can't return a phone call/too busy/out of the office for a week!

Shambles might be a bit strong, not all companies have a dedicated HR department. I agree by not returning a call gives a bad impression, but I wouldn't write them off just yet.

@OP - Is there any means for you to leave a message or to call in over the weekend/Monday?

I've just wrote them an email so hopefully get some closure as that's all I'm really after. Granted I was exited I got the call as thought it was a good sign. Now a week has passed I kind of just think they went on to the next guy.

I was once in similar situation. I usually get a call or an email or a letter within a few days from an interview. Sometimes they let me know the same day. That time a week went past, then another. At this point I was sure it is a "no" and they just didn't bother letting me know (which in itself is not nice). So after 2 weeks I wrote them an email saying that they should at least let me know about the rejection. I got no reply to that email that day (not that I was expecting a reply at this stage at all) and the next day. In fact it took them another 2 weeks to get back to me.

Overall it took them just over 4 weeks to get back to me and they were quite apologetic about it. I must admit though, I have not replied to them, because I thought it was a P taking at that point.
    Unfortunately it does happen.

I went for an interview on the 11th March. Interviewer told me it'd likely be a couple weeks before I heard as he still had several applicants to see. No probs thinks I.

Nearly a month goes past, not heard anything. So I fire off an email to the lady in HR that arranged my interview. In the run up to the interview, she was very quick to reply to my emails, as we had to do a bit of arranging and re-arranging to make it work. Very helpful and informal email style. But after emailing asking if there was any update to the job status, I didn't get a reply. That was the 5th April.

So I emailed her again on the 18th, once again asking, politely, if they could let me know what the status of the job was - filled, open, still interviewing, etc.

    All I got back was a rather blunt, and slightly rude I thought, reply of;

"All jobs have been filled now.

    Many thanks"

Thanks for effing letting me know earlier!!

A lot of positions I have seen/applied all have something lik 'due to high application numbers, if you are unsuccessful, we may not get back to you'. Poor really.

you have to remember HR are there for the employer and not the employee - so, they're hardly going to care about someone who has failed an interview :(

^^ exactly, they're still totally unaccountable and put themselves in charge of things they usually (from my experience at several multinational companies) know bugger all about ... most of all, recruitment for roles they don't even understand, with decision making power over the managers of said roles
