I've just realised that if I get a second box, which needs connecting to the phoneline, along with the phones we have already we will be over the 4 REN limit of a single phoneline .. now I can easily connect one of the sky boxes to another phoneline in the house.

Assuming Sky are aware, will they allow each box on a mirrored sub to have a different phone number? Obviously the engineer / BT would confirm that the two telephone lines were at the same address .. but I can't imagine this being a problem (ho ho)

The mirror sub requires both boxes to be on the same phone line, they are quite "definite" about this.
You don't imagine there will be a problem, we are talking about SKY right?

Damn. OK. Have to put up with some phones not ringing then (or get one of those REN extender things).

And there was me thinking Sky would be very reasonable about it ;)

I would certainly give it a shot assuming you can get by the first line of CS who will be totally out of their depth, poor things:)

May not be an issue. The REN number is realted to the Ringing devices on the line. I doubt the SKY box modems have one. Even if they do you could discnect the ringing wire ( 4 I think ) form the socket the sky box is in. It could still ring out.

    all phones should/might still ring

we have have gone over the limet with the ren numbers in our house but all phones still ring.

    e.g. 4 phones at 1 ren each =4 ren
2 sky boxs at 0.3 ren =0.6 ren
    1 fax at 1 ren

    total 5.6 ren

( fax does not ring but at side of computer anyway so does not matter. but all still ring even with the fax not connected.)

Best bet is to give it a go.

It depends on how far from the exchange you are but generally 4 REN is very over cautious.

Bear in mind also that ringing converters cause problems with broadband if you have it.
