These are great little boxes but are hamstrung by the I/O ports they use. The HDMI port (v1.4) doesn't support modern UHD formats (10 bit colour depth, WCG, HDR etc), hence why you only saw 8 bit video output and why it wouldn't output HDR. The Mini DisplayPort won't either although, it will support video at up to 4096x2160p60. So has a slight advantage over the HDMI port.

Looks like a great little computer, but a little pricey. I have a Dell with a similar footprint, which replaced my balky desktop. Same problem with 32gb SSD.
You have to be fairly confident to upgrade the SSD and reinstall Windows and take care of the partitions, but once done it's worth it.

CONS should of listed old spec HDMI 1.4 only

So old tech and restricted for home cinema fans that like 4K and all it comes with .
Not future proof or resticted for upgradeability

Not sure I see who this is for. If you want a media streamer for 4K content buy an Apple TV 4K. If you want a retro video game emulation box buy an NVidia Shield. If you're a massive criminal and want to steal content then buy any cheap Android TV box. If you're a gamer then buy a PS4 Pro or an Xbox One X. If you want to do actual work then buy a real computer.

I would say that the Nvidia Shield does all of that bar the last on it's own.

I have a Shield and it's no modern gaming system. Android games are beyond terrible and the streaming stuff is very laggy. I use Gamestream myself over a fully wired network and the lag makes any first person game unplayable.

As for 4K movies, iTunes has far more 4K content than any other digital store. It's not even a contest. iTunes already has hundreds of 4K DV movies.

We're going to disagree on this but I guess it's horses for courses. I think it's one of the best purchases I've ever made because it's so versatile - and I don't even use half of it's functions. It's a better gaming console than our Fire Stick and a better media streamer than our PS4 so it's a great middle ground. But that's what works in our household.

In many countries like USA it is Legal to Stream content from Android boxes so calling people Massive Criminals is a Very Harsh Statement

And i bet no one has ever ever recorded off the radio with cassette tape recorder or video off the tv .
Or picked up there mobile phone while driving .
Or watched a pirate vhs tape years back or ever broke the law ......

In some ways i bet every one has done something illegal once in there lifetime .

If not they have been stuck in a shoebox .

That's not what I meant. I was of course referring to KODI and it's myriad ways to steal the latest movies and TV shows.

For reasons I cannot comprehend some people seem to think this is acceptable behaviour. Crime is never acceptable.

Honestly, this box seems a bit too limited in modern av to get much of a recommendation on Av forums.
