MiniDV Tape

Is there a limit to the number of times you can record over the same MiniDV tape before you begin to notice a loss in image quality?

From the standpoint of the recorded image quality, does it matter if the tape is recording in standard (sp) or long play (lp) mode?

Thanks!

In theory, because it is digital, you should not see the quality of the picture fall over time but what may happen is you get 'drop outs' as the tape wears.

Because the tape has moving parts and bits moving against other bits, it will wear out over time although with tapes as cheap as they are, I tend not to use the tape over and over again.

You will always get a better picture/sound recording in SP.

The degree of quality loss will depend on the quality of the camera, tape, type of scene being shot etc, etc.

With tapes being so cheep now it is best, IMHO, to always use SP if possible. The only problem is the length of the tapes (SP = 1hr, LP = 1.5hrs).
