I have recently bought a mini ipod and was wondering whether I coud connect it to my hifi using some sort of phono connector.

I don't epxect much from the sound but it is a convenient solution to listening to some older songs.

Thanks in advance for any comments :lease:

Yes, you can. Just buy a 3.5mm jack (for the iPod's headphone output) to phono connector lead (assuming your hi-fi has phono connectors for external input). These shouldn't cost more than a few quid. The output volume will be controlled by both the hi-fi's volume control and the iPod's volume control, which works fine, but can be a bit fiddly.

Or, you could spend a bit more and buy a dock for the iPod. The 3.5mm jack socket on that is a line-out, so volume is then controlled only by the hi-fi's volume control. The dock also means the iPod is held upright on display, for easier use and viewing of what's playing.

Either way, sound will be good, dependent only on the quality of the files themselves.

Yes, all iPods will work with a jack-to-phono lead.

Docks, with line out, are available for all current Ipods except the Shuffle. The Dock for the iPod mini is £25.

Thank you very much you've been really helpful.

I was always quite sceptical about forums but this one is great.
