Got over 100 mini dv tapes to digitalise. I have a Sony DSR-11 with dv output. I would like to keep the quality as high as possible,
Any suggestions on the PC. I have a Samsung Laptop R530 with HDMI and USB only.
I am considering a 5tb hard drive to store the tape transfers..
Once I have the right hardware what software for storing and burning off copies..

Mini DV doesn't play nicely with Windows laptops.

You cannot convert from DV to USB and your HDMI will be output only.

Your best bet would be to get a desktop PC and a PCI card like this one: https://cpc.farnell.com/compro/c500..._NFY9bDZiUpBlYSuFg4B-FxoL-1Q0yAAaAlcEEALw_wcB

It will retain full quality and you can then capture and convert to a more efficient storage format - perhaps MP4.

I would suggest a NAS drive running Raid - splitting the files across drives, so if one of the drives fails, you won't lose the recording. Backing up to a cloud service - even Youtube with private links wouldn't be bad idea either.

Software wise, the capture card above comes with some basic software, so if you don't need to edit, you might well be sorted!
