^ It’s not horror film guys. Keep that in mind. It’s funnier than it is scary (intentionally and otherwise).

      Hey I watched Chucky !
Problem is, the plebs are watching Midsommar judging by the screening I was in last night. The trailer has already misled them.

      Nothing as shocking.
There’s a only couple of gore moments.
Very mildly unsettling, if you’re after horror thrills look elsewhere.

Hehe. Not saying there's anything wrong with those films, only that this aims a little higher.

Definitely a film that needs a little time to marinade. I'm still thinking about it especially Pugh's performance.

did you not think certain shots looked particularly fake within that sequence?
In Aster’s attempts to shock, he forgot subtlety is a powerful weapon !
In fact I’d say that’s one of his biggest flaws generally, when it comes to pay off, rather than be genuinely surprising or scary
he just throws in someone doing something a bit silly in the nude or have someone get hit in the head with a mallet.
Which is all good and well if you’re appealing to teenagers, but clearly this isn’t for the Annabelle crowd.

Hmmm...The trailer made it look about as interesting as watching paint dry...maybe add it to the list of stuff to look at after the obvious watches.

watched 1 hr 15 yesterday and that was enough for me, 8 lol that's a hilarious score. in that 75 minutes, there was crying a couple of deaths and lots and lots of boredom. zero horror, zero tension hope it picked up for the unlucky few who hung around, that 75 minutes was way too long to sit through that snoozefest

You either get it or you don't
      There is no mid ground
Like Us, Midsommer is not a horror but it is horrible but you need to think. You are not force fed images and told this is a horror, scream or wince now (well apart from one scene)
Paige is awesome and has found a new calling after leaving WWE.
The cinematographer is beautiful, the colours are beautiful, the ginge is beautiful.
Story-wise it follows a group of Americans who tag along with their Swedish mate to his home commune . Dani (Paige) has gone through a tragedy and just wants to get away. Her boyfriend is a bit of a dick tbh.
Can't really say much more without people moaning.
Go see it if you love it awesome if you hate it you hate cinema.
This is not music this is a trip
      8/10

@Sam Crow Actress playing Dani is Florence Pugh. Would have been fun to throw a WWE performer into the mix though!

Edit - Ah I see what you mean now. Pugh played Paige in a wrestling film from last year.

I obviously watched a different film - I found it dull and an hour too long.

      Evil Swedes kill helpless bears

Recently working in Sweden - locals seem generally amused by the concept with perhaps an undercurrent of "we're pretty sure this isn't based on fact..."

Amused to find that the history of Midsummer in Sweden is pretty much that Norway had a national holiday then... so that's a good enough reason for Sweden to have one too. Maypoles at the ready...

I watched two films yesterday, Annabelle Comes Home and Midsommar. Had high hopes for the former seeing as though Creation was a pretty solid film after the awful original. How wrong could I be, what a god awful mess of a movie.

Midsommar on the other hand I thought was great, preferred it over Hereditary and just found the whole thing deeply disturbing.

On a separate note is it just me or did the scene
where they enter the village by car make you feel disorientated? That camera shot was insane.

Absolutely and an absolutely deliberate decision by the filmmakers. It marks a clear point of no-return as well as flipping the genre (and its conventions) on its head.
