also what is the difference between:

microsoft works 8.0
microsoft office basic 2007
microsoft office home and student 2007

There always seem to be many good offers about for students so I would certainly go for Office rather than Works. While the two have similarities you would probably rarely if ever see works in any commercial setup and would be far better off becoming accustomed to the Office package. Plus it also has far more advanced facilities.

Dear Student

Not works - I don't know of a single bussiness that uses it.
If you can access it please get office XP, 2003 or 2007 - whatever you end up with. Learn how to use Word and Excel to a very high level. Programming simple macros and all sorts of cheats to save you time in the working day.

Don't tell the boss that you can to a 12 hours job in 3 mins, just cos you're the only person in the office that knows how to do a mail merge.

also what is the difference between:

microsoft works 8.0 - free crap to get you by.

you don't have to use M$office - tell the world about
openoffice.org
