I'm looking for a Microsoft office to use on a new windows 10 laptop

    I want word, excel, PowerPoint

This will be used as an introductory for a primary school age kid

I don't want the limitation free version and don't require the newest

What works best for windows 10, 2016 version and if so how much should I be picking it up for as the latest one is more than I want to spend

Happy to go older if it works and saves the £

The manufacturing costs for software are minimal so there's rarely any business logic in selling old versions for less money. You might find some old boxed stock being sold off at cost but I wouldn't expect anything beyond that.

If the £85 for the 2016 version is too much then consider a different office suite, something like LibreOffice will do much the same thing and is free.

Just to be sure: why exactly do you feel you need MS Office? As already suggested, Libre Office, or Apache Open Office do exactly the same job, in a very similar manner, with file type compatibility with equivalent MS Office apps, legitimately for absolutely free. Unless you have good cause to actually need MSO, I suggest one of these alternatives. Download, install, set up file type defaults, done.

No actual need, but having looked on eBay codes can be had for very little overlay which will look familiar to myself and so easier to navigate and use

As you like, of course - but you may well be surprised how familiar the Open alternatives are.......
