I've just bought a sony DCR-IP7E camcorder and would like to plug it into my PC and edit some footage.
The question is can i load footage on to my pC with no capture card fitted using a USB cable supplied or do I need a capture card before i can do this.

Could anyone recommend a capture card for basic editing.

    Thanks.

USB is supposed to be for the still pictures ..

In order to capture using capturing software, you need a firewire port ..

You don't need a dedicated capture card .. any firewire port will do (e.g: New Creative Sound Cards have a Firewire port, that's enough) ..

In addition to that, you need an editing software ..

If it's DV, any editing software will be able to capture .. However, Mv is still new, as per my knowledge, only two capturing software are compatible with MV so far: The Sony's Movie Shaker (Comes with the camera) and the Pinnalce Studio 8.3 and above.

    Hope that helps :)
