Hi,

I’m having a bit of a problem with my gyrodec and technoarm.

I notice the high end has a slight bit of fuzziness / distortion on both the left and right channel.

I haven’t used the record player for a while, but have removed and reconnected all the wires (plus squashed the clips that plus into the back of the cartridge), but it still happens.

The player is correctly grounded (on both the chassis and the amp ground point).

The problem is somewhere in the gyrodec itself as I’m using brand new records (and old ones), but the problem remains.

Do you think it’s worth replacing the cartridge, or is the problem likely to be the harness wiring into the cartridge?

I (sadly) suspect it’s the latter - probably the wiring into the plugs - but would value your opinion before I change anything.

Are you using a separate phono amp? Have you checked the settings?

It could be that the stylus has accumulated some dirt on the stylus tip. This happened to mine recently and the sound was slightly fuzzy/distorted at the top end. A quick clean with a dab of stylus cleaning fluid on a stylus brush cured the problem.
