Metroid Prime 4 - First Look - Nintendo E3 2017Watch this video on YouTube
I'm hearing rumours that Retro aren't even involved this one, it's either in-house at Nintendo or maybe another third-party partner like Next Level Games. Which would beg the question, just what the heck have Retro Studios been up to for the last four years?
I'd be very surprised if it's not developed by Retro. They are a part of Nintendo so...
According to their Wikipedia page, they've been worked on an unannounced game since 2014 so I'm hoping they are taking their time making Metroid Prime 4 the best it can be.
hmm, some speculation in this link
it says 'talented new development team' which they are taking as not being Retro. It may just mean that its a new team within Retro, I mean the people who made the original series may have moved on so a new team has been formed. I still think its Retro.
It could just be internal staffing changes since the original 3 games. Who knows at this point.
Yep, thats pretty much what i said
If Retro had been working on a game for three years there'd be more to show for it than just a title screen surely? The lack of any news or even whispers of what they're up to from industry insiders is pretty concerning.
Maybe but this is Nintendo / Retro we are talking about, they are basically on Valve time.
They showed a CG trailer for Metroid Prime before they'd even finished the game's engine! I'm still inclined to believe this hasn't been developed at Retro. There was talk in 2008 that staff were sick of the franchise after making four games in a row, that's why a bunch of the management jumped ship and formed Armature. Also the Metroid Prime Director, Kensuke Tanabe said in 2015 he had no idea what they were working on. My money's on Next Level Games
I really don't care who develops it as long as it has that core feeling of isolation and exploration that you got with Prime 1-3 and that it maintains the same high production values as that trilogy. It's even possible that the new team could be one in name only and consist of former Retro staff who worked on the original series. All speculation of course at this stage. I'm just happy that it has been confirmed as in production!
I think there was mention of it being brought in house so it's not retro, so the new question is what the hell are they working on? New donkey Kong?
A whole new IP featuring a paperclip who knows everyone and only wants to help, but despite this everyone hates him ....
Surely Microsoft have dibs on clippy
This one will be legally different and have a Nintendo Charm to it.
I'm really hoping it extends on the DS version of the game, that was really fun especially in MP online. High hopes indeed.
So it's a 2018 title
Nintendo Of America: Metroid Prime 4 And New Pokémon Are 2018 Games
I am trying to decide if I should be insulted or not that Nintendo are basically suggesting that by the time Metroid has come out I am expected to have finished Zelda BOTW and Mario Odyssey, as well as Splatoon and Arms and Skyrim !!!!
Article revised to say 2018 and beyond. I would love to see MP4 next year but I'd rather time was taken like with BOTW to ensure it's a worthy entry in the series.
There were a few rumours going around in the last couple of weeks that Nintendo had partnered with Bandai Namco to develop Metroid Prime 4, along with talk that they were going to reveal five Switch exclusives in the February Direct. There's been a bit more fuel added to the fire after a Namco employee added Ridge Racer 8 and a FPS for Switch on their profile.
Rumour after rumour after rumour, but I'm so desperate for news on MP4 I'll take anything at this stage !
Can you imagine that imo unsurpassed vector mapping system in HD?
So it is clear Namco are on it. This makes Retro's Donkey Kong port effort all the more ridiculous now. What else have they been up to?
Eurogamer say they've had it confirmed by multiple sources so I think this rumour sounds pretty solid now. I don't think Retro have been working on that port, probably more likely to be someone like Monster Games, who handled the 3DS port of DKC Returns. There are a few rumours that Retro had a hand in Labo, which is interesting if true. I also think part of the company is used for asset building now. They had a team helping build the retro (!) tracks on Mario Kart 7 after all. Nintendo are using more of their 2nd party studios to help out with their big resource-heavy games, like Monolith Soft advising on the open world design of Zelda (and when I think of it those 3D dungeon maps look suspiciously like Metroid Prime's). My best guess is they've got something like a Diddy Kong Racing game up their sleeves.
I do hope MP4 stays true to the style of the previous games from a gameplay point of view. Namely that it's about exploration and puzzle solving foremost and combat as an important but definitely secondary element.
In that sense it's more a first person adventure than shooter. I'd be interested to revisit the thigh, I enjoyed the first one but really don't remember the second that well and don't think I ever bothered with the third. I got fed up with shooting games so a revisit now could be fun to see how it was different to the crowd.
They are explore-em-ups. All three are great. The first one is special as it's the first but the others are worthy and have great storylines as well.
Is there any more information anywhere about this game?? I have been waiting soooooooooooo long for a new Metroid game in the Prime series. I can't wait to see what it is like!
Already got a thread for this.
It's getting stupid how much I am yearning for some more info on this. Even confirmation that the existing Prime trilogy will be remastered for Switch would be some relief. A single crumb from Nintendo confirming that there will be some sort of Prime 4 demo at E3. A picture of the game title screen. Basically anything please!
