    Hi,

Is there a way to merge 2 partitions on a HDD without 3rd party software?
I use Xp home edition and someone said I could do it in the administrative tools in the control panel.

    Is this possible?
If so, how do I do it.

    Thanks.

Found it, what do I do now?
If I right click on the partition I want to get rid of I get the option of "Delete Logical drive", is this correct?

I'm not that computer savy so if you could explain it in idiots language that would be a great help.

er assuming one partition is empty you simply delete the partition then clicking on the other partition select extend partition and follow the instructions. Not sure if it will work if you have data on both partitions and wanted to merge them together.

When I click on the partition I want to extend I can't see anything that says "extend".

Does it matter if the partition I want to extend is called "system"?

    Hi Spaced-Man,

To find info. about extending partitions in XP, try opening the 'Help' screen from the 'start' button and enter diskpart in the search box and press 'Enter'.

You should find some explanatory notes about how to make the changes that you want.

    John.

Don't forget, removing partitons will delete any data on them.

My advice would be to backup the data, delete both partitons, and create a new one.

Pretty sure to do what you're asking you need third party software, such as partition manager. Messing around with partitions with data on there is risky, as said it's safer to copy data to another HD, then re-partition the drive, then copy the data back.
