    Hi Chaps,

I should be getting the G68 soon to go with my G91 but i am pondering on what amp to get to go with it and am currently looking at the Parasound A52 + A23 for full 7.1, also considering the Meridians G series amps but my wallet is takeing a pounding atm and the Parasound is a much cheaper option for me. I have heard Rags A51 and it sounded superb and after reading quite abit on the A52+A23 the specs are very good indeed and look like they will do comfortably.
Do any of you think this would be a good move Ref to matching the Meridian Kit with Parasound or should i just stick with Meridian?

Any Comments or advice appreciated... :)

Maybe should also consider the EAD and Integra Research RDA-7 amps. I assume you are going for the G68 with balanced outputs?

    John,

I am currently sniffing around McIntosh`s mc-206/7....supposed to have a lovely warm valve like sound but also plenty of power on tap. Maybe one to add to your short-list ? I have seen them going on U.S Ebay for around $3,300 (£1800) which isnt bad for a 6/7 channel amp of this calibre.

Whats the score with the power supply on the 206's ?? can you get them modded for 220v if you buy them over there??

John, I thought you were getting the G98??

I don't get the G91 at all it seems to be a G98 with a tuner and a 2 channel pre amp in it from what I understand, is that right?? Why would you put this with the G68?? Am I missing something?

And to answer your question, the Parasound stuff would be nice with Meridian.
Definitely have a listen to a few other bits though if you can. And Power amps is something I would always buy used if possible.

The G91 can decode external DD and DTS sources so when paired with a G68 or 568.2mm you get upsampling of all sources, external or not. Also the G91 does not have room correction or some DSP modes, THX ones in particular I believe, so the G68 gives you the works. The difference in price between the G91 and G98 also gives you, over and above external DD/DTS decoding, a FM/AM/DAB tuner and you do not have to choose between digital or analogue M/C out as you do with the G98. It makes great sense when used with a G68J that omits the video switching and FM/AM tuner.

    Thanks Ian,

You really should be looking at active designs here John.

Genelec, Adam & Quested spring to mind here.

They would be serious with the G68 front end &

    A)Save you dosh
    B)Save you real estate
    C)Huge dynamic / cinematic performance

I'm not overly keen on Meridian active speakers (and i'm an ex Meridian owner - 568.2/596)

I believe their strengths lie in their source/DSP number crunching

All in my opinion of course.

Wow!!! thanks for all the replies... :)

Yes the G91 has given me alot more flexiblity ref to my future setup and it is really the best choice for what i wanted and needed, all my video sources will be fed thru it and even some audio too.

Ref to my speakers i am keeping my M&K MX350 as it does the job well and also keeping my Column Surrounds so all i am changeing is the front 3 speakers which i have already ordered so that just leaves me with my amplification for which i need to sort?

Gizlaroc - that is good to hear as the Parasound has such a good reputation and also they are very reasonable price wise.

Dan - I will have a look at the McIntosh cheers.

I will have to see if i can get a dem somewhere ref to the Parasound.

    Thanks Lads

If you want to stick with meridian, have a look and see what late 5 series stock the Dealers have got. As you will see from my sig, I run a G98 with a 568.25 and two meridian power amps. Dealers are still stocked with 559s and 558.2s so you should be able to get a great deal on them.
I love the sound of this combination. When I auditioned the 558.2 I did so against a range of others (Arcam p7, Bryston SST, Rotel and Naim.) It flattened all of them. My Dealer didn`t have parasound stuff but I believe its very good. Still - stick with meridian if you can, I reckon.
