    Hello there.

I have been deliberating a new processor purchase for some time and have come here for some advice. The processor I have settled on at the moment is the Meridian 568.2. This one caught my eye for a number of reasons:

    - THX Ultra 2
    - Tri-field processing
    - Balanced output for front 3 speakers

I have heard one running, and thought that the sound was detailed, smooth and dynamic.

I have seen these sell second-hand for around the £2,000 mark, but beofre I spend so much cash, I would appreciate any opinions from current or past 568.2 owners and suggestions for alternatives to consider.

    Thanks in advance

    Rob

Everyone I've ever spoken to that's heard one has nothing but high praise for the Meridian. Would certainly be at the top of my list in that price bracket (assuming you can find one as they don't tend to come up that often!).

Quick heads up as there is one in the for sale section right now!

I had the pleasure of having heard the Meridian demonstrated by non other than Bob Stuart himself, and it is awesome when set up to perfection, and more than excellent right out of the box

If only I wasn't buying a new projector

    Hi Rob,

Did you hear it with the latest Beta firmware (v2.5). Several people over at the Hitchhikers Meridian site reckon it is a significant improvement over the existing 568.2!

The new firmware makes the sound very different, I was worried that it was going to be a little too lively, but it manages to keep that great organic sound that Meridian is known for but adds a little more openess.

I have spent an evening comparing the old firmware with the new and have decided to stick with the new one.

Trifield is a revelation, never has regular 2 channel music sounded so good, and this is someone who 2 years ago would have laughed at the thought of playing a stereo recording through anything other than 2 speakers.

Go for a 568.2mm if there's any chance of you buying a meridian DVD player. The direct digital link (called SmartLink) will make for an all digital front end and sounds a little better than connecting via digital coax. Via smartlink you also get upsampling on all channels.
Ive recently moved the 2.5 software and reckon that it is a little better already - certainly worth doing.
The only significant downfall of the 568 versus the G68 is the number of inputs (particularly, analogue inputs) which are restricted to only 2 on the 568. Some say that the G68 sounds a bit better than even the 568.2 v2.5 but Ive yet to do a direct comparison.
I love my 568 and cant recomend them highly enough. It has also been 100% reliable.

I know a few people who have bought the G series and gone back to the 500 series.

And yeah the 568.2 and X98 combo is pretty bloody impressive.

Did you own a 598 before the G98 Pat??
