As my last upgrades to my stereo system I am gradually bringing my whole system in-line from a quality perspective. So out goes my Pioneer CD player and in comes .... ? I went to Eastern Audio in Ipswich last Saturday to audition the Meridian 507 and the Arcam FMJ CD33. I listened to them both through Arcam FMJ A32 amp (which will probably be my new amp next year) and Monitor Audio £2500 speakers. They were both very good players but I was surprised how much better the Meridian was compared with the Arcam, especially as the Arcam was more expensive. The Meridian had better resolution, better sound staging and generally better definition across the entire frequency range. It was an easy decision to make and I bought the Meridian. Eastern Audio did me a great deal and as usual were very helpful. I'm now going through that wonderful phase of digging out all sorts of CDs that I've not listened to in a while to hear them again. The best smile so far was brought on by my Dark Side Of The Moon hybrid disk where the intro to Time actually made me open my eyes to check that I hadn't put it in the DVD player for 5.1 surround by mistake - the soundstage was that good!!
