Mercenaries 2: World in Flames™ is an explosive open-world action game set in a massive, highly reactive, war-torn world. A power-hungry tyrant messes with Venezuela's oil supply, sparking an invasion that turns the country into a warzone.

But for you, international crisis is all upside: You are a mercenary, and you profit from chaos. Mercenaries 2™ features a slew of potential clients, all willing to pay you to do their dirty work. Dirty deeds, done for exorbitant fees. These are world powers with deep pockets, deep grudges, and enough arms and ammo to start World War III. This is your kind of environment.

Mercenaries 2™ features the latest and most dangerous in civilian and military tech, everything from shiny new sports cars, to the future-tech satellite-guided bunker-busting mini-nuke. Tanks, APCs, boats, luxury automobiles – you name it, you can have it delivered to you in real time. And if you run out of cash you can always 'acquire' the gear you need in the field.

If you see it, you can buy it, steal it, or blow the living crap out of it. Play your own way, or play with the help of a friend in the new cooperative multiplayer mode.

You are not a soldier. You don't have to play by anyone's rules. You have your own code: you will fulfill the terms of the contract, no matter what. Not everyone in the world of Mercenaries is as honorable. Everyone will try and screw you, given the chance. They think they can get away with it, because they don't know rule #1: EVERYBODY PAYS.

Key features:

* Cooperative Multiplayer! Play the main Mercenaries 2 campaign with the help of your friends. Jump in and out of a game at any time!

* Enhanced Destruction!
Bring buildings teaming with enemy soldiers down section by section, topple an overpass with C4 to stop an oncoming enemy vehicular assault, fire off an RPG at a balcony and watch as it crashes on unsuspecting enemies below – in Mercenaries 2, destruction isn't just cool to look at, you can use it to your advantage!

* A massive, reactive, and completely unscripted game world!
The world of Mercenaries 2 is larger than all of the maps of the previous Mercenaries combined and is jam-packed full of colorful characters and environments.

* Build your own Private Military Company!
Increase and customize your support options by recruiting other mercenaries you meet in the game!

* A Mercenaries' Paradise!
Each faction has plenty of work for you, from small pick-up jobs to elaborate, multi-objective missions. The world of Mercenaries 2 offers over one hundred unique tasks you can take on – if you're interested.

* Tired of driving?
Take over landing zones in the world and instantly travel from place to place!

* If you can't beat them, steal from them!
Don't want to pay for a Bunker Buster? No problem – every faction has tons of fuel and munitions just waiting for the "resourceful" mercenary to acquire. Just make sure that Bunker Buster doesn't blow up when you start getting shot at!

* No Deadly Water!
Don't worry about drowning ever again: use watercraft or swim to traverse the oceans, rivers and lakes of Mercenaries 2.

* Cool new toys!
Dozens of weapons, vehicles and support options are available for to use to blow the crap out of everything! Use the new grappling hook to latch on to flying vehicles and commandeer them in the sky!

* Work for the highest bidder!
Clients will offer you money, information and other resources in exchange for your services, provided you haven't done anything to **** them off!

Fiscal 09, so that could be anything from April 2008-March 2009.

Yes, the story says, "In a conference call to investors, CEO John Riccitiello indicated that RockBand would not be shipping in Europe until Q1 2009, which begins in April." It's really confusing to see Q1 2009 which is apparently April this year???? Huh?

I just found out about this game today and read it was going be be out in FEB.

I like GTA clones.

It looks like we will have to wait longer for it now.

Are we sure it's been put back really far? On Gamespot it still says Feb 8th and on IGN it says: Release Date:
US: August 2008
Europe: April 2008
Australia: June 2008

Not too long now before Mercs2 is finally released. Seems to being quite well received in most previews that I've seen.

What's the general impression that you've got? Tempted? Not so tempted as before? Definite purchase?

last page for those with firewalls

It's a delicate balancing act, a game like Mercenaries 2. Level structure and level destruction go hand-in-hand to create a "Build your own rubble" approach, blessing the player with immense freedom without ever letting things degenerate into pointless anarchy. It's also very, very funny, delighting in exaggerated character humour and the slapstick termination of baddos and environment alike while deftly side-stepping parody or adolescent stupidity. And while the single-player campaign levels we've played admirably provide giggle after explosive, napalm-scented giggle, nowhere will you experience the true joys the game presents better than in online co-op mode.

With so much overkill potential at your fingertips and a world of chain-reaction physics and destructible everything to play with, Mercs 2 is like that bad-influence best friend you had as a kid; always egging you on to jump out of that huge tree or put that firecracker in the bag of poop, just to see what will happen. The reward and sense of satisfation the game lavishes upon you for simply making a nuisance of yourself actually rivals and even beats some of the finer moments of Grand Theft Auto IV.

And just like when you were a kid, once the panic and fear of dismemberment has passed, you'll be filled with the smug satisfaction that only comes from being completely irresponsible, leaving a big mess and getting away with it. And the only way to possibly improve that life-affirmingly anarchic buzz, as always, is to share it with a partner in crime.

It's a friendly game that wants you to enjoy yourself. The tools, physics and destructibility of the world are designed to bring about carnage and laughter in equal measure. The vehicles handle exactly as you feel they should, and the overall level of control in the game offers not a single barrier to you doing exactly what you want to do, when you want to do it. And co-operative mode somehow manages to be even more than double the laughs.

Factor in co-op achievements for the 360 version which can only be earned by teaming up with a partner, as well as viral achievements which have to be 'caught' by playing with someone who already has them, and it's clear where Pandemic's focus for Mercs 2 lies. And they're absolutely right to encourage us to share the frenzy. Because while yes, it's epic, and yes, it's sweeping, and yes, it's immersive, it's also very, very fun.

Where do I sign!? Sounds absolutely superb! :thumbsup:

A bit like Army of Two in a way.

Only this sounds like a game worth playing!

Does anyone have any idea of the cheapest place to pre-order online?

Nice one, cheers. Did you use any pre-order codes or Quidco? Shopto currently have it up there for £37.99. Is there any way of bringing this down further? I note Quidco no longer pays out for pre-orders :(

Yeah, must admit I've not had any payments from Quidco despite using it for 2/3 pre-orders now.

Ah well, have pre-orderded via Shopto now. Cheers for the heads-up buddy :)

I've been following this for a while, but wasn't sure whether I would get it or not. The co-op mode sounds good and might swing me to the buying side though.
