Hi Guys,

I currently have 4Gb of RAM (2 x 2Gb DDR3) on my PC and would like to increase the memory to 8Gb.
Are there any advantages in mine have 2 x 4Gb modules then just adding another 2x2Gb modules to the existing 2x2Gb already on the system? I have had the PC for 3 years and I cannot imagine me wanting to run 16Gb of RAM. I do not play games and neither do i do any video editing.

What I would like to know is how do i find out the exact specs of the RAM that is now on the system.

Thanks.

i have so far determined that the installed RAM is:

Mushkin enchanced PC3 10666 1.5v 9-9-9-24 and my motherboard is: ASUSTeK Computer INC. M4A87TD EVO
I cannot seem to find RAM is similar spec and similar stuff by crucial reads 10600 instead of 10666 (this of course means nothing to me)
What are the implications if i went for one that reads 12800 with what i currently have at 10666?

any input would be greatly appreciated.

There's no point in forking out twice the price to replace your current sticks

similar stuff by crucial reads 10600 instead of 10666 (this of course means nothing to me)

They're the same rating, different manufacturers just round to different amounts. It's all DDR3 1333.

What are the implications if i went for one that reads 12800 with what i currently have at 10666?

It would match the speed of your existing memory, 10,666 Million Transfer/Second instead of 12,800. The difference isn't likely to be noticeable.
