Hi Guys, Don't know about you but I'm always wondering what my system sounds like in comparison to someone with a similar bunch of kit. I live just outside Welwyn Garden City off the A1m My System comprises of a JVC 350 projector, oppo 105, Yamaha 3050 with Sherbourne power amp, Elac main speakers with jbl and Q acoustics heights and rears. Running 7.1.4 atmos system. So if anyone is within reasonable traveling distance it would be great to get an idea what something similar might sound like in comparison. Thanks in adavnce Trefor
Asking random strangers into your home to look at your expensive home hifi. What could possibly go wrong? And on a different (or maybe similar) note, ever been totally underwhelmed by an audio listening room? Volume doesn't mask everything. That's often because your room, your ears, your choice of music or film won't be a perfect match to the guests ears. My mate loves his bass turned up to 11 when we watch movies at his house, I certainly don't at my home. His sofa directly in front of the TV. My chair to one side, angled to the screen with one of the rear speakers near my ear. Sure, meet up, discuss each others equipment and settings, but not really sure what the outcome is likely to be.
Ahh well seems l'm just to trusting on a forum were l hope that like minded people could share their enthusiasm. Ah well
No, this is a good idea in principle. Would certainly help out people like myself with not much equipment, wanting to hear set ups. But opening your home to totally random people is not the thing to do. Just have a look at the 'disputed classifieds' for some evidence. Yes there are hundreds of great people on forums. But some wrong-uns. And you can't tell which is which.
And this is the microfiber cloth I use to wipe the system down when it gets dusty. Does it smell of choloform to you?
I don't think @leamspaceman was asking you if you wanted a bum. I think he was just throwing it out there (so to speak) for the thread.
there are hifi forums where people hold bakeoffs all the time - and I myself have held one around 10 years ago... normally tho - it's amongst people who have been there a while and are fairly well known on a forum... but it does work, and work well... basically people would take bits of kit around (speakers, amps, cd player etc) and you'd mix it up... great fun
Well I'm glad there is someone out there with a rational sense of reality. Indeed I belong to another Hi Fi Forum who regularly hold equipment swap and listening sessions without fear of being gang raped or having their speakers slipped into some strangers car boot. Indeed my concept had been more about finding like minded AV addicts who might be local and willing to share. Sad to see so many feel its just a place for a cheap joke. But at least I have given everyone a chance for some so called humerous comments.
I exhibited at the London international hi-fi show for several years back in the 90s. Was a fun time and I met lots of great people in the trade and when the show was open to the public it was a real joy. Showing off your system, mine was speakers using a Forrest filter and still the only one ever built was something special. Hope you continue to enjoy your sounds and have some great get togethers.
