Hi All

Getting married next spring, and am looking to sort the honeymoon for late April / mid May. Budget up to £5k for adult only all inclusive. Criteria:

- looking to go for 7-10 days depending on length of flight

- want to avoid overly crowded, large resorts

- we’re going mainly for the sun, so watersports and zip wires aren’t for us, but a little local exploration wouldn’t go amiss, so needs to be safe (I hear bad things about Jamaica and Cancun / Mexico generally)

- looking for a destination with a bit of a wow factor

- been looking at sandals, but are there any other similar companies like that for the Far East for example?

Any resort and hotel ideas will be gratefully received, cheers :)

Maldives? Malaysia? Thailand?

Gonna be hot in Thailand at that time.

Katathani Phuket Beach Resort | Kata Noi Luxury Hotel | Official Site

Stayed there with friends several years ago. One of the nicest hotels I've ever been to.

Fair amount of honeymooners/wedding stuff going on while i was there.

Felt like like you had the whole beach to yourself at times (visited Oct so just the start of the peak season).

Thanks, that’s very useful. Unfortunately the website for the Katathani resort is a nightmare to navigate on the phone so will have to check it out tomorrow at my desk. However I didn’t see any all inclusive options, so that could be a deal breaker.

We did sandals in St Lucia, halcyon beach. Absolutely superb and worth every penny. I’m sure there is a thread in here where I talked about it and another member went and loved it too

Edit : quick search later

The Honeymoon is booked! St Lucia here we come....

Got it, and a good read too, although maybe some things will have changed in six years. St Lucia is high on the shortlist. Thanks for responding!

Likely it’s changed, hope Agnes is still there but she wasn’t a spring chicken then! If anything sandals will have improved, they tend to invest and keep a high standard :)

if you do - then go for the all inclusive plus package and the cocktails are amazing... table service with them on the private beach too... :)

yep, we're looking for all inclusive, as well as, budget permitting, a room with a private pool. I can see the resort offers that, so it's all down to availability and whether we opt for short haul instead.....

do you recall whether there's much in the way of entertainment of an evening there? I appreciate Paphos town may be nearby for that, but the missus is keen on there being at least live music in teh hotel. We're not sporty, although the odd game of pool I'm sure wouldn't go amiss...

yes, there was some live acts on of en evening...paphos wasn't the best, but there was a lovely beach path walk to it which took around 45 minutes past the other hotels too... :)

certainly looks a decent hotel. they have a deal on where you pay full board but they give you all inclusive. the shorter flight is attractive, but May might not be that hot...looks like average temp is 24c, which could go either way I suppose. Decisions decisions!

yes, we went in late october and it was around the same temp - warm enough for us to be chilling in the sun... and I just realised I've got some photos of it online too :)

Paphos

Looks decent! Proliferation of cats, interesting :)

yes, we like the cats when we go on holiday haha..!

Always speak to cats on holiday.

Language is international so less of a barrier. Once you've learned Meow that's you good for the whole world.

The safest country where I ever spent a nice vacation are the United Arab Emirates. During our time there we even tried 2 resorts. After a few days in Dubai we spent 2 days in Waldorf Astoria in Ras Al Khaimah, followed by a week in Radisson Blu Resort in Fujairah. The only problem I see is that in May it might be very warm already.

Thanks, I’ll look into that :)

Might be worth checking out a firm called Destinology

They specialise in long haul trips but they really come into their own sniffing out great deals - sounds like they have a lot of contacts for different resorts and do get amazing deals that you don't get at other places.

They are very good at Maldives, Mauritius, Seychelles, those sort of places. Have used them and we got an amazing over water villa in Maldives at an incredible resort that had only just opened (hence the deal) for the price of a normal room in lesser resorts we were looking at. They are on the internet but best bet is to actually give them a bell and see what they have on offer........

Thanks, I’ll look into that, although we’ve more or less decided to stick to medium haul for the time we’ve got available. Caribbean or Middle East most likely....

Thought about Kenya? 10 day break with a 2-3 day safari in between

Only briefly, before deciding that safari isn’t something we’re that interested in at this point.

I Have just come back from 3 weeks traveling round Thailand and you may want to look at the resorts around the Hua Hin area. Lots to choose from and the town has nightlife, Shopping mails, Night markets & lots of good restaurants if you get board with eating in the resorts. I stayed in the Hilton which has the main part of town behind it but there is lots of resorts spread up and down the coast line.

There is plenty of excursions you can do + Bangkok is excellent to do a few days in, either at the start or end of your stay as the airport you would fly to is local.

Highlight of my trip was phra nakhon cave that is about 1 hour south by car.

As stated by someone else on this thread that Thailand will be very hot at the time of year you are looking at. I don't like it too hot so November was the best month for me as it was 25 -34 degrees while I was there.
