mediabox compared to laptop

Ive recently just connected my laptop to a tx200 projector via the rgb connection to watch downloaded avi files and backups of my dvd collection. Ive currently got a dvdplayer connected via hdmi and was wondering if a media box like the pixel magic one would give a better picture and sound than through the laptop, also if I wanted to connect that by hdmi is there some sort of hdmi splitter so I can connect both the dvd player and media player through the hdmi.
Hope someone out there can offer any advice
Thanks

The MB100/200 is a very convenient box and without the HDD installed it is completely silent. Also, it handles passing multichannel audio to your amp cleanly.

The downside is that your laptop/PC will always be able to playback more formats using standard software than the MB as it is limited by the chipset (assuming of course that your laptop CPU is high end enough).

Do you know if there will be any improvement in the actual picture quality?
