    Hi,

i would like your recommendations. here is my problem. i will be getting a medium size LCD tv probably 1080i compliant for our bedroom and i have a lan in place. what i need is a media player (movies and music) that is quiet, small and NAS compliant, in other words, i dont want a pc running somewhere with the server software.

also i will be installing 2 ceiling speakers, can these media players power speakers for will i also need a small amp somewhere.

    any suggestions greatfully received

    thanks

Have you considered the Pixel Magic Mediabox MB100?
Lots of info on this in a thread in the High Definition section.

Would need an amp but otherwise would fit your needs perfectly. Can have up to 500GB hard disk fitted internally and will work without pc.

I'll heartily recommend a Mac Mini. Small, silent, will play all your media, can connect to the LAN, will also let you surf/email etc. Apple Remote might get lost in the bed though!

Modded Xbox - £40 second hand. I have three XBOX media centres around the house playing from NAS boxes. Best Media Player I have ever seen.

Mod'd Xbox gets my vote as long as you don't need to play back native HD material, it will play back divx that has a HD resolution but it does so by reducing the output resolution.
