    Hey guys

whats the score here? I currently run an MDA3 and well, my bird went out and got herself a UMTS phone at the weekend .... I mean come-on! I can't have her having tech that I don't, she's blonde! :D She bought her phone coz it was small and ... in her words "Looked pretty" ...arrgh! :rotfl:

I am happy with the MDA 3 despite its frequent(ish) crashes and lock-ups but then I noticed the Nokia N series has just launched. This N series seems, at first glance, to contain everything the MDA Pro does (wifi etc) but, it uses a diferent operating system. Is this the only big diference?

    What should I go for?

My requirements in order of priority (top are the most important):

    • Must be able to expand memory to at least 1 gig
    • WiFi
    • UMTS/3G
    • Sync with Microsoft Outlook
    • Lots of third part apps, which I why I think the the MDA pro can win (its an organiser with a phone)
    • TomTom and Bluetooth are essential! I'm stuck in a strange country full of sausages and funny speak. :D
    • Be able to play Divx and mp3/wma (maybe through the third party apps?)
    • Camera is not so important but, it should be at least 1.3
    • Easy to use keyboard

Or maybe someone out there can recommend another phone?
(I don't know why, but the nokia 9000 series don't appeal to me, maybe its the size??)

What is the Holy Grail of mobiles at the moment?

Cost is not a problem. Money is no object but im not going to buy a Vertu (or however its spelled) on principle.

Note: I will be buying this phone off-contract (don't know if this makes any diference, it shouldn't)

    Thanks in advance!

Only the N91 has Wi Fi, I think you are referring to the new E Range handsets due 1st quarter 2006...

I prefer the N70 (nokia's smallest 3G handset) due to it not being too bulky or heavy, the N90 is a similar size to the SE910i when closed, too big for me.

Sony are due to release the W900 before the end of the year, which looks pretty high spec...

Hmmm ... the SE seems to be branded as a music phone. As I'm currently using my MDA3 to its max, is this really going to be good enough for me?

I think the E series *maybe* what im after but not sure I wan't to wait for the q1 only for it to inevitably be delayed. How will these compare against the MDA PRO?

i think the only other realistic alternative is gona be a previous mda/xda/spv

by the way iv just found some roms and emulators and its bloody great. im playing super mario, sonic, street fighter, mortal kombat and quake all on the same unit. all i need now is live tv broadcasts sky+ style

    So thats it?

Are we (by lack of response) saying that there is nothing better than an MDA Pro out there on the market?

    me thinks so mate.
the size of it may be a problem for some so for that reason people may not even list it in their wish list but if u want a powerful feature packed pda with phone capabilities theres nothing else. its the only windows 5 3g pda with touch screen and large qwerty keyboard and with wifi.
except for maybe the moto a1000 on 3 which is a pda n phone n 3g but that is pants and so slow n ul struggle to get software for it.
the nokias! well sorry to offend the nokia lovers but i too was a nokia lover untill i got sick n tired of em using the same substandard screens in all the handsets. making tiny changes in design n 1 change in os withing 3 months of new phone being out n rebadging it making ur phone null and void instantly, and i dont like the early learning centre menu system. im a big boy now and want big boys toys lol

Right o. Cheers mate for the response.

To be honest, I suspected as much but I guess I was kinda thinking that there may be a little more competition in the market, guess not!

MDA Pro for me then

What OS does Tom Tom run on? Can you get it for Symbian phones like the N91?

    Yeap it sure is.

I used Tom Tom to get me all the way from London to south central Germany. It did. Very well. Only got lost once and that was in a small village where the road layout was less than clear ;) We now use Tom Tom to navigate round the local area with great success.

There are other alternatives that I have not used and so it might be worth checking these out. One example is Co-Pilot.

check out the following site for more info as well as speed camera overlays for the system you choose to go with

Thanks for that, I'll look into those when I finally decide on my next phone.

BTW found this pic of the N91, IMHO looks better than the MDA Pro.

    Aye it is better looking.

It is important to remember the distinction between the two. N series phones are phones first that can do some PDA stuff. MDA Pro is a PDA first that can do most phone stuff.
