Just been recording some programs, and noticed that if the Sky box is on Standby the IR emitters do not switch it on before trying to change channels. Am I missing something or does the Sky box need to be left on permanently?

I could be wrong but as far as I know the MCE emitter only sends numbers, and 'ok' if you select that option. No 'ons' or 'offs' to switch in and out of standby I'm afraid.

Why do you put your Sky box into stand-by? I thought that even when in stand-by it is still actually on.

yes it does need to be turned on. if your box powers off frequently there is a gadget from pace link that turns it back on.
