I'm taking no credit for this whatsoever, some of the guys over at thegreenbutton.com tracked this down to help me out.

I wanted to see the name of the day in view on the MCE tv guide, bit odd as someone in the US was seeing it no problem. Turns out to be a localisation setting, specifically the long date format, that MCE uses to format the date. To have the day shown you'll need to get to your regular windows control panel, go to date\time\regional settings, regional & language options, hit the customise button, and finally select the date tab - you'll see the exisiting "long date" format shown as dd MMMM yyyy (on my machine). Change this to ddd d MMM, restart MCE, and you'll all the dates shown as"Tue 3 May", "Wed 11 May", etc.

Nice one, just tried it and I now have "Wed 4 May" in the top corner.

Slightly off topic, but how to you view the guide for a particular day for instance 14/5 without going through all the previous dates?

best way is to use the skip buttons on the remote ... skip+\- is a 12hr advance, ffw\rwd are 3hr, left\right are 30min ... from memory. Haven't seen any direct day access options, unlike the trusty tivo :)
