    I mean is anyone buying them, you can still pre-order first allocation core systems at Game. These consoles are taking up valuable production time away from the ful systems that everyone wants. Lets face it most of the early adaptors are gonna be hardcore gamers, who won't want the core system.

    What's the ratio between the Core and Full System?

    I think it was a pretty clever piece of marketing, they get to advertise an Xbox 360 at £210 and everyone thinks thats brilliant, but deep down they know that most people will be paying a lot more.

    Not sure if its been clarified yet or not though whether they are packaged completely separately or if they can be done "in-shop" to meet the specific local demand. If they are completely separate then that may well come back to bite them.

    I think i'll just have to wait now until the full (all singing) version is readily available.. i can't stand all this core system rubbish.
    Microsoft have been very quick to say that they have sorted out all the problems with the first XBOX and they're quick to learn from their mistakes... i wonder what they'll learn from this one?

    Yep they have a different colour tray, Premium pack is chrome, core is same colour as rest of the console. Microfsoft said they expect core to be about 1% of sells to begin with, with that increasing later in the consoles life, as they can price cut it.

    I love the spin from Microsoft - The Core System is only £210 and there for anyone who can't afford or doesn't need the extras; To be honest, the Core system is as appealing as a kick in the head - Wired Controller, No Hard Drive AND no memory card, a dirt cheap av cable, and is there anything else?

    Believe me (and Microsoft know this too), when you are paying £210 for something, the extra £70 is easily found, and when you look at the premium pack, you are getting far more than £70 worth of goodies; hard drive (worth 70 quid), wireless controller, component hd av cable, free remote control (for a limited time), its simply not a choice, and the pre-orders reflect this fact.

    For me, the hard-drive issue still rankles - Without a hard drive as standard, developers can't buffer data from the hard drive, surely this is going to be a real disadvantage in terms of loading times (and many other things) for the likes of Football Manager on the 360. :(

    Production = 80% Premium Systems & 20% Core Systems.

    a) Not everyone can afford £280 right off. The £210 pack is very much equivalent to what you get in standard console packs. We know it's worth (and we'll make sure we can afford) the extra £70, as we know we'll use it. Not everyone needs backwards compatability and they have been putting up with wired controllers for years before now.
    b) The hard drive can still be used to speed up games at the discretion of game manufacturers. I would've thought FM2006 would take advantage of this.

    Even if I agreed with you (which I do) there's no point in discussing it, as they've already manufactured a shed load of consoles. Not going to happen.

    EDIT: Not going to happen...anytime soon.

    So do you think it will be a case of every 360 game running without a hard-drive, but some may say in the manual hard drive required 'for optimal performance'.

    Surely it wouldn't be that hard just to replace the disc tray front?

    I know it won't be hard for them to state that future games would need a hard drive, but that would put MS in an awkward position in that those that bought the core pack wouldn't be able to play those games. So they'd have to give everyone with a core a free hard drive or create a two-tier games system, which we all know just confuses people. Like I say, not going to happen.
