Finally, after 2 years of viewing these forums and having a look at other people's rooms, I thought I would post mine up.

This is a dedicated room of 30 foot by 14 foot that still has to be finished (i.e. Skirting Boards and surrounds around the 6 sections to make it tidy)

There are 10 remote controlled spotlights in the ceiling.

There are 6 cut out sections in the room.
1. Mini Bar/Fridge
A section that holds wine, beer and sweets
2. Contempory Electric Fire
3. DVD/Equipment Rack
4. Cinema Book Shelf, plus Cabinet for storage
5. Other Half's Book Shelf plus Cabinet for storage
6. Fish Tank

Please excuse the equipment I use as Im only still getting into the technical side of things.

HP HD Projector & Optoma HD800X 1080P PJ

My favourite place to sit when not watching movies. The section behind contains only books on Cinema and Movies and I love sitting here reading the books and the magazines.

The contemporary fire. As this is a second living room to the family, this was an idea of the wife's and Im delighted with it. It is re-cessed into the wall and is built into the unit which was specially made around it

Stairs to below and the view of the minibar/sweet section

Finally got it done. The mini bar and sweet section, the door on the left contains about 12 bottles of wine + more beer, wine and beer glasses, crisps and nuts. Its recessed into the wall aswell and very misleading as the section goes back about 3-4 foot.

I love the fridge!!!

What gear is it... i assume a projector/screen??

Great looking room you have there. That sofa looke very inviting. :)

What kit are you using? Looks pretty good to me.

Where is the fire from? Does it have to be flush mounted as I'm after something similar, but don't have a chimney breast to sink it into.

Some more on the sofa.

It because the sofa is 12 foot long and seats 8/9 people in total, but also come apart in 4 places and they can be situated like dedicated cinema seats for when there is a crowd over. These photos may help show you what I mean:

This is the standard set up

IMG_3726.jpg

I can then move the end part around (as an example - 3 other parts can be moved) to where I want it

Thanks
I have now update the gear list above. Just kept it basic so not to entice ridicule onto me. The projector is actually 3/4 years old now with only about 600 hours on it (and I also have 2 extra bulbs just in case) It does the job for me and Im extremely happy with it. If I told you how much it cost, it would make you sick. Lets just say I have a friend who knew someone.:smashin:

I don't actually have a screen, that just the wall Im projecting onto and again its fantastic...of course I should get a screen, but Im not sure how it might ruin the room. I do think I need to get the screen, especially now Im HD with the HD DVD player, but its still looks good (still thinking on that one)

Thanks Miniholic,
Ive listed the kit above, very basic stuff - but it really works for me....for now.

My wife got the fire from somewhere, will have to ask her. It is an electric fire, and comes as a box that can be fitted to an ordinary wall. We wanted it flush along the wall and had the unit specially made to accomodate the recess of the fire. (actually all the units and specially made to ideas from me and the wife)

Wow, that couch is massive. Very nice setup. :D

Very nice set up mate :D, loving the fridge and sweet section and the personalised cinema sign, theres always some well cool ideas in these threads :smashin:

WOW! I love that dude!

I was trying to figure out where the screen was, since from the first few pics the sofa was pointing towards the fire :p

And you should go for a screen I think :)

awesome room, sofas look amazing, great set up

Thanks Lads,
Its amazing that when people come over, they mention the fridge first and then the sofa, all the while, Im talking about he screen and the picture etc and they don't seem as interested.

Superb set-up MP

Cheers thanks lads!

Yeah I agree (I think) on the screen.

I have been contemplating this for the last 2 years and I have the money set aside for it - but just won't take the plunge as I think I may ruin the look of the room at that end. Im still thinking of a way to integrate it seamlessly as I still want to hang a 50" Plasma on the wall and have the screen come over it.

The only problem is that the pelmet that will have to be made for it, might not fit in well......I know the picture will be better, but at the moment all is good.

There is also the matter of screen size. I would want a 120" screen and Im looking at a little more than that now and it is great when my viewing distance is 20 feet away. Anything smaller and I will feel "detached" from the action

looks very smart mate you must be well chuffed.

the only problem i can see is the sofa.......how the hell do you stay awake long enough to watch a whole film lol, id be asleep in seconds :rotfl:

There are some good rolling-up ones :p

Good luck, check out the screens forum :)

Well of course I know there are the "rolling-up ones":rotfl: I want a electric one, but the problem is not when it is rolled up, but the size of the pelmet that would be required to hide it. I would want to integrate it so it wouldn't be obtrusive etc.

Thanks for the comments and I have been in the screen section many times, but still hesitate in taking the plunge.

Thanks mate - yeah, definitely well chuffed, especially after a long wait to finally get it 4/5 finished as it is now. Looking forward to the surrounds that are going around the units (they are cut, painted....im just waiting for my retired carpenter to come back from his 5th hols this year:rolleyes:)

The sofa is very, very comfortable.....there have been many a night I have been woken at 4am by my wife looking were I am. I seem to have a major problem staying awake on Friday nights while looking at a movie (Im knacked after sitting on my arse working in an office all week:D). 10pm comes and Im out like a light on the sofa. Ive only have watched quite a few movies now!!:rotfl:

Wow - that is stunning.

What size image are you projecting?

How far is it from the projector?

Thanks for the kind words.....I was convinced I would receive smart comments about the equipment, so Im well pleased.

The image size correctly measured is approx 132" or so (maybe a bit smaller - its too big to measure on my own....and the wife thinks Im mad)

Im currently projecting about 15-18 foot from the end of the room (Sorry don't know the exact distance, but I did calculate by way of the projectorpeople site (I think thats the site).

Hi Max,

Great looking loft conversion you have there :smashin:

As said before, that sofa looks the biz

Especially like the fridge and sweet jars, brilliant. Maybe that's something I'll need to introduce into mine, it would stop the kids asking me to run back down stairs for a top up

Good job mate.

Yeah, love the sofa. It was always a talking point when (I) wanted my home cinema and wanted dedicated seating, but when the wife saw the progress of the room, it turned into another living room and when we went shopping for sofa's, this was a great compromise for us both.

We actually extended the sofa and had it specifically made to the size we have now and that it would come apart in all the places. This was a great result as we were looking for sofa's for months and then came accross this smaller sofa that we then made larger.

The fridge was actually a compromise on my part. I wanted one of the bigger ones, but my wife thought it would look too big for the room and you would only end up putting too much stuff in it. So we ended up with the smaller one, but its still big enough for what we want. Im delighted with it and the only flaw is that there is no light on the inside when you open the door:rolleyes:not sure why that is - but I might add one if possible in future.

The sweet jars were my idea and I scoured the net for the type I wanted, but again compromised on the ones you see as I got them locally for seriously cheap money.

The initial idea was to have different jars with a scoup in each and then paper bags that can be filled using the scoops in each of the sweets. Only last night, my wife mentioned while watching a movie that she would prefer different jars, so she could just fill a bag of the different sweets instead of bring each of the jars over (we might need to change that)

Also, my wife mentioned she wants a popcorn maker (the American Style ones - a mini replica), I have seen them locally on a special offer and am thinking of getting one for her. Im not the biggest fan of popcorn and always prefer eating sweets while watching movies (hence the jars), but to ensure there is harmony, I think I will get the popcorn machine she wants so its more of a cinema experience.

Ive just googled the link to a machine that looks like the one Im going to get:

KPM-508(1)_regular.jpg

The only problem I have now, is where to put it. Think I might end up putting it in the cabinet on the left as Its too high for the shelf where the jars currently are at.(they could be moved to the side to accomodate if needed)

Wow, thats a really nice setup you've got there - looks really comfy and cosy (like a home cinema should be IMO).

My mate is currently converting his loft into a new room and I was so impressed when I saw it, I started pondering about changing my own loft into a functional room. After seeing your forum thread, I think a home cinema is the perfect solution!

How did you get those sofa's up and around your staircase? It looks like it would have been a right 'mare! Also how much (if you don't mind me asking) where the sofa's, they're an ideal solution for a cool home cinema setup, for the reasons that you've pointed out - they're highly configurable, and very comfortable.

The sweets and snacks idea is cool. I think you should definitely upgrade to a full pick-n-mix style selection + A trip down to Makro to stock up on loads of different varieties :D

With regards to the popcorn machine, I think you can get lots of different sizes and some without the cart bit, so you could put it in one of ur side spaces maybe?

Gotta agree with everyone else's comments on this one Max. It's effin wicked mate! Why in your first post though did you apologise for the kit you own? I'd be well proud of what you(and your wife) have done, and it's so neat and tidy it looks the biz. Who needs a bedroom when you've got a den like that!

Oh and as regards to falling asleep during films, get some of those sugary sweets down ya neck lol.

Top marks !:smashin:

 WOW MAX what a cracking room.......

Couple of Questions.... Did you convert the room or was it always like it ??

Them cabinets look great, did you 'retired carpenter' custom build the whole lot ??

Have you got any 'Before' or 'During' Pics ??

This is going to look excelent when finished :smashin: , with ref the screen, do you really need one ? the pic you have looks pretty good anyway, what finish have you got on your wall ??

Think that's it for starters.... looking forward to the progress..... :D
