I've commented before, but this is a fantastic set up. Wow!!!
Thanks lads, your comments are much appreciated.
Hopefully I will have changed the PJ within the month, so onwards and upwards to 1080p......still have to get my retired carpenter to focus on building my new cabinet though
Very nice setup Max. You should be proud!
Well I have a new addition to the cinema and Im now
New PJ: Optoma HD800x
Hi Max, how was the trip?
Come on then, where are the pics.
We need pics Godammit !!
Max you must be well chuffed with the new pj. Did you sort the composite cable out ? Apparently they're doing wicked deals on Sky HD at the mo - it'd look great running through the Optoma....worth a thought ?
I second the motion. Pics, pics, pics!!!
Awesome room, I'm supremely jealous.
I can only imagine (or should I say fantasize about) how good the PS3 looks running in there - I have mine connected to a 32" widescreen CRT via composite cables and even that looks pretty good.
Hi there mate, trip went smashing thanks!! Tired from walking around and hoping on and off trains and the underground, but its worth it in the end when I got home and set this up.
Pics on the way
Well chuffed after playing with the settings last night. As for SKY HD its actually a thought now because of what happened with the cable, and as I am looking for multiroom, I will have a look into it. And as you said, there are doing some great deals on it at the mo....
Pics on the way

It really does look well to my eyes, but then again Im not as technical as others on here, but definitely does the job.
Back with pics
Okay, camera has been found (in a baby doll's buggy no less!!)
So here's a few just to prove its "home" and its mounted:
(Yes, I know the wires need to be arrange properly, but this was a one man job on getting it up there, so will clean it up soon)
So, will try and get some pics uploaded now, but you all have been warned that my camera is 3 years old and a measly 5 mega pixel canon in the handbag jobby, so the quality is not what I see with my eye.
.....if I only had access to Jon's super duper camera..
And here we go:
Now I have mixed up some SDDVD, HDDVD and Bluray
First up SDDVD:
Now some HDDVD which my player outputs at 1080i and not 1080p:
and a close up:
and onto Blu:
sweet! Nice pics!
The Cars screen, and the T2 menu shots seem to jump off the wall. What distance is the pj from the screen, and what is the width of the projected image?
Best movie ever made.
I just re-measured the distance and its over 17 and 1/2 feet from the screen/wall to the PJ.
The width of the projected image is: 8 and 3/4 foot - just under 9 foot!
The cars screenshot is just amazing isn't it, and I think I got the best pic from that. Even thought its SDDVD and it was just part of the ads on the Ratatouille SDDVD so I took a quick pic.
Of course pics are just pics and it will be more easy to measure when you see it in person.
B, those pics are cracking, and how big is that image ?!!!
Who needs to go out when you've got that upstairs !
Distance wise, it'll suit my cinema room to a T.
Slightly smaller screen, 106" diag.
My index finger is developing a nervous twitch when the mouse is over the "Buy" button on the PP website....
Cheers mate! The image is pretty big allright. Its about 120"diagonal for standard and then 110"+ ish for 2:35:1
I have to say Im knacked now after getting a few hours to myself today and I have now watched a number of segements from movies that have simply blown me away.
Black Hawk Down (Blu)
Bad Boys II (SD)
Kill Bill Vol1 (SD)
And a few more with the volume cranked up while the wife and little girl are away.
A quick pic of Bad Boys II SDDVD:
Wait until you see it in person and hopefully you will still be convinced
Cracking good shot of Bad Boys II. The flesh tones, and the green from the tree, are just jumping off the screen!
Great room - amazing screen shots.
What made you go for the Optoma over the Infocus X10? I was looking at that thread & noted you were also interested.
these where my thoughts when I demo'ed both the x10 and the Optoma:
Well just finished my 2 hour demo of both the Infocus X10 and the Optoma HD800X and I have just paid for the Optoma!!!
Im bringing it home tomorrow!
Will post more when I get back but I viewed both side by side watching Casino Royale on Blu Ray and also some SD DVD aswell here are my overall views on the 2 machines.
The Optoma (through my eyes and the 2 other guys there) was the clear winner
Whites and Blacks
Optoma much clearer,sharper.... just better than the Infocus
The whites on the Optoma blow the Infocus away in my opinon. Also reds and whites in particular were definitely and significantly more brigher/defined on the Optoma
Colours in general
Again the Optoma won out as the colours were more natural and vibrant and gave me the wow factor over the Infocus
Optoma wins here, the X10 is very plastic over the slimer more eye catching optoma
Oh dear, the X10 is a monster of a machine and actually really huge and ugly. I was half hoping I didn't have to bring it home with me. The Optoma is much better built/looking of the 2 PJ's
I would have hated to have bought the x10 blind and just based on internet reviews, its butt ugly.
The Infocus wins here as their remote is very good and modern looking although with no backlit keyes. The optoma remote is very basic, but with backlit buttons.
The Optoma does win for having on unit controls, the X10 doesn't have any buttons on the machine, it replies solely on the remote control, so if you lose it, you are screwed.
Personally for me, Im delighted I have the Harmony 1000 and I won't need to use the Optoma remote, so it works out well for me.
Don't take my advice if you are looking at these, please see both in the flesh. I think you will then be able to make up your mind better.
Any other questions you may have, just let me know.
Really helpful review - I'm now leaning towards the Optoma, whereas I'd previously almost opted for the Infocus.
What do you think about the contrast and black levels on the HD800x?
I've heard things like that the black levels on it can be compared to LCD PJ's. Slightly more to the greyish, than really black. You probably know what I mean.
Never got an answer in the Hd800 vs X10 thread.
Max, can I ask which screen you are using with your HD800X?
Sorry I didn't reply - must have missed that question.
As for the black levels, its very impressive to me. I am seeing stars in the sky where I couldn't see stars before so I don't think they are grey. Im not sure what to tell you, as the blacks are very good?
The screen is a very expensive make called "le wall", I imported it in from France
Seriously though, its just a white wall that is quite smooth and have a few coats of paint on it. It really works for me and Im happy with it as the picture quality is great (to my eyes)
I think I'll paint the wall I'm using white for now then. Cheers.
right, havent read every post on here so maybe been said and asked a million times already so sorry if it has but I had to say................
WOW! I WANT to live in that room, thats a great use of attic space and has given me the inspiration to look into doing that with mine
the sofa is my taste, whats it called please and do you know what it cost?
never even thought of a projector but what a great solution, are the HD ones reasonably priced?
a friend has a screen thats set into his false ceiling and comes down remotely when needed, that would suit that room I think?
can I ask why you are also considering a 50" plasma as well when you have the projector?
last question as you must be loaded, can I borrow 50 grand please
