I still have only got the original R2 vanilla release.
    I love the movie.
What is the definitive version to have, is there a DTS version and is it better than the original which still sounds pretty good.

The current best version is the one within the Ultimate Matrix editon - sadly I don't believe there is a DTS version out and there probably won't be on DVD, I think you'll have to wait for a Blu-Ray/HD-DVD release and even then, who knows, as Warners don't really issue DTS releases (Batman collection withstanding - the only DTS/Warner release I can actually think of).

IIRC it's only the original Matrix that is cut on R2. Two scenes, one with Morpheus and Smith, the other with Neo and Smith - both have headbutts removed. I can't recall any other cuts - but you can find out what cuts have occurred on www.bbfc.co.uk

Cut 1: During the bathroom fight scene between Morpheus and Agent Smith, Morpheus headbutts Smith knocking his sunglasses off. Smith retaliates with three headbutts to Morpheus.

Cut 2: During the subway fight scene between Neo and Agent Smith, Smith headbutts Neo twice whilst their arms are locked.

Cut 3: During the subway fight scene between Neo and Agent Smith, Neo headbutts Smith twice whilst their arms are locked.

As a direct result of these cuts the Audio Commentary and Isolated Score were out of sync with the rest of the film. They therefore had to be dropped from the UK R2 DVD.

Yups, I recently picked up this Dvd and it indeed looks better then the original dvd release. Colour wise, it looks much more similar to Matrix 2/3 (Greenish tint when in Matrix). And sadly nope there is no dts tracks for any matrix films.

Agreed that warner barely ever does release DTS movies but I do find that occasionally a few releases outside of R1 do come wiht a nice DTS track, ie. terminator 3. Argh I wish I picked up the DTS version of the movie instead of the R1 version that I have.

BTW If you look in the reviews section, I reviewed the Ultimate Matrix and there is a comparrison between the original release and this version regarding picture quality, if that helps.
