After all the hype, raving advice to watch this film ,I finally sat and watched it and boy was it boring.

    1)corny love interest.
    2) shooting,shooting and more shooting
3)Martial arts and more martial arts etc etc.
    4)Badly done computer FX
    5)Dodgey acting
    6)all the usuall hollywood swearing/blaspheming
    7)Annoying female character.
    8)Pretentiousness all the way through.

    Spiderman was muuuuuch better.

All in all a VERY dissapointing film.Long live films like Lord Of The Rings!!!!!

yeh but you must admit he's got a point about Lord of the Rings, considering star wars fell on its ass the second time around and the matrix sequel was nowhere near as good, LOTR must surely be the most consistent series ever (does anyone doubt Return of the King will be amazing)

I was far from blown away by LoTR. It just didn't do anything for me.

yeah but lord of the rings wasn't written for hollywood so has an imediate advantage over the others.

Oh give me a break. Its a Hollywood production company. Most of the stars are American. Being shot in New Zealand by a New Zealand director with a predominately American crew.

Yeah, LotR hasn't had a chance to be farked with by the studios, since they are making all 3 films in a row.

Just wait until they decide to make The Hobbit. It'll be:
    A) Without Peter Jackson
    B) Overproduced, replacing all modelwork and perspective with cruddy CGI
    C) Full of cute kids
    D) Crap

It's the iron law of movies (bar a few exceptions). Once a movie becomes a "franchise", it's guaranteed to appeal to the lowest common denominator, dumbed down with all the sharp corners sanded off to appeal to the masses.

When I watched the Matrix Reloaded, I felt the script had been written to show off as many special effects as possible: it was style before substance.

With Lord of the Rings, the story was largely set in stone: CGI was used as a tool to tell the story. Substance came before style.

That's a huge difference, and one that Hollywood would do well to take note of. In a way, the Matrix Reloaded reminded me of those BBC sound effects albums you used to be able to buy in the 70's...

It's a really, really bad idea to think up a spectacle you can create on screen, and then contrive a story afterwards to explain it. To my mind, this robbed Matrix Reloaded of its credibility.

what i meant was that the story was already set out, it had not been written to show off special effects.

There was still the bit in TTT that made me cringe....

    Legolas surfing on a shield!!!!

I really wish they hadn't put that in, it spoiled the tension of the whole siege for me anyway.

saw it on saturday night and i have to say that it is the greatet film since Citizen Kane - absolutley fantastic!!

sorry i lost there for a mo, i was taken by the hype machine.

One of the single most boring and pretentious films i've ever seen. apart from the freeway scene, it was woeful. i was never a fan of the first film (it was nothing more than passable) but compered to this the first film really does look like Citizen Kane.

it was slow, had no pacing, the direction was laboured to say the least - and the script, the script!!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: ha ha!!!

and what was the scene about the cake all about? at least half of the film should have been DVD deleted scenes.

Lets hope Frodo and Gandalf can save us in december.

I saw it last week too. I confess I nearly walked out. A measure of how bad it was is that I remember that there was something about a cake, but I cannot remember what it was at all. Can someone remind me?

I think you forgot the poor direction, worst love scene I've ever seen in a film, pointless grandstanding, *huge* plotholes, characters acting inconsistently with their supposed background and a crap credits song at the end.

It's a bad pulp comic plotline aimed at teenagers.

I have very little hope that Revolutions will be any good.

Oh, and the freeway scene wasnt that good either. I found sections of it terribly boring - at least in e.g. Ronin, you know that the driving is actually for real - with this it's all bluescreen/SFX - you know there's no real danger.

I dont think TTT was as good as FoTR either, although I'll reserve judgement on that until I see the extended edition.

It was a cake designed to arouse the eater, and involved a green matrix crotch shot to emphasize that. Awful.
