    A friend just bought these for a total of €1750 (£1200):

    Projector: Sanyo PLV-Z1 X
    Receiver: Yamaha RX-V 650
    DVD Player: Denon DVD-1910
    Speakers 6:1: JBL SCS-146

    He claims that barring individual quirks this is among the very best he could do with that amount of money.

    Now, girlfriend is about to spend an equal amount of money for a home cinema setup. Should she follow the beaten track ?
