Now I see what they're trying to achieve with this but it just doesn't work imo. The grain I don't mind so much but the high contrast robs the visuals of any realism.

It would have been welcome in a few of the environments but I find it really tiring if used throughout the entire game. It seems developers are using effects like this just because they can.

You can adjust the visuals in the options menu if you don't like the default. :smashin:

Actually I liked it, I turned it off for a while, but found it made everything look too clinical for my liking to I switch both back on. Each to their own I guess.

Yep i turned them off after checking each way.

I laughed in Drake's Fortune, which has a "Next-Gen filter" you can apply, it has all the overblown blooming etc that devs are sticking in games, and does nothing to improve it. Obviously Naughty Dog think some devs are up their own egos too.

Yes improved graphics can help a game, but really i wish devs would sometimes go "we dont need this X, lets use the processing power to have better AI, or one more simultaneous enemy per fight" and so on. Oh well...

I switched the film grain off. Didn't make it look like a film but made my TV look knak3rd. IMO of course.

I actually thought the grain worked quite well. What's this high contrast option? I've only seen the grain and motion blur options.

Think if I remember rightly that there are options for different displays that change contrast settings.

Some are more "realistic" others were much more vibrant.

How does all this MABOPIA work...

Didnt know you could do this, does it stop the problem of textures going missing? I'm a bit sick of seeing a blank normandy and the game world redering around you as you travel.

When I first started playing, I thought the default settings made the game look a crap.
I was happy to discover that you could turn off both the motion blur and the film grain.
I mean, I undertand the option of having the film grain, as you have the same thing in Silent Hill 2, 3 and 4, but the motion blur seemed very unnecessary.

20 hours and I've never had that issue, perhaps your DVD drive is on its way out or the disc is dirty.

Nothing to do with the DVD drive, it's called "texture pop in" and was one of the :thumbsdow that reviews pointed out, I think Halo 3 (or at least definately Halo 2) suffered from it. I think it's the Unreal 3 engine that is the real problem with it, BioWare just had to do the best they could with it.

Yeah Halo 2 was very bad for texture pop-up, infact it didn't so much pop-up as very very gradually appear.:(

It's not to bad in Mass Effect from what i've seen so far.

You've never seen texture pop in on ME!? It happens on every major load. It's one of the main gripes about the unreal engine.

I think he was referring to texture pop up inside the Normandy as thats what Paul T was babbling on about, rather than during the outdoor levels.

Can anyone tell me where this is? I can only see the film grain and motion blur options.

Would you recommend I turn both those off? Cheers.

I much preferred the look of the game with them on (more "filmy").
