They've squandered my goodwill from the original marvel tv series'... I have literally stopped watching them because they've become so terrible.

It's almost like they did Iron Fist, realised releasing utter crap didn't reduce the numbers watching and then gave up on all future series as it's cheaper to put no effort in.

I was looking forward to this but after 20 minutes I found myself wandering and thinking more about why so many people just drop their shopping at something and not pick it back up but go off?!
As you say Cas, it's the usual opening of little worth so Miss Lou can't really be faulted - she seems to be suited and booted a lot on Elementary. Of course then it's the between middle and end slow down to trawl through too no doubt.

Season 1, ep 1 to 7 was brilliant then sort off lost it's way but better then Iron Fist and Jessica Jones but not a patch on The Punisher.
Looking forward to season 2, another season another villain to take on.
The trouble with these superhero TV binge series is that need to keep a good pace going and build characters up for you to enjoy and be engaged over a 13 hour period.
I am looking forward to this, I do like Cage and will update once I finished this, if not for World Cup going on at present I would have been half way through already....
PS: More of Ms Knight please :D

Thank you Cas again. Top review!
(Netflix need to up the bitrate now to at least 30)

I must be missing something and in the minority but I found The Punisher series a load of soap opera garbage, despite loving his character in Daredevil.

wasn't keen on season 1 after half way through but will keep watching, if I can get through Iron Fist (thanks to Jessica Henwick) I can get through anything

I enjoyed s1 and so far with s2, but it really could do without the whole racial undertones, especially as it does not have any underlying morale message (no messages that it is wrong), it is just not needed in 2018 and the story could be told without it.

That's the norm today. It's very liberal. It's Hollywood remember. You're reminded at numerous occasions of your sexual orientation and colour and if you don't expect others preference due to religion or any other circumstances you're deemed too old and out for touch with today's society.

PS. That's why I stopped watching Sense 8. It's in my face, I don't need that lol..

I'm up to ep5 and still don't feel any sense of urgency about it all. It's set in mind that, yeah, Luke got beat down but you know he's coming back and everyone (bar Bushmaster!) is telling you this in it - chill, maan! And the whole heavily laden Reggae music, at just about every opportunity, for the Jamaicans is making it feel relaxed too and then there's the blues etc. which is turning this into a diverting showcase of music videos at times.
The whole thing makes me feel like I'm 17 again, sat in the Blue Coat Boy in Ipswich and smoking an, alleged, sensemilla joint with the Rasta bwois.

Just finished watching this, was alright but nothing special so currently at the bottom of the list for me with Daredevil, Jessica Jones and The Punisher in the top 3.

Agreed, I thought it was terrible with far too little "punishing". Such a waste, especially after Daredevil S2.

After struggling through the first season of 'Luke Cage' and (the incredibly disappointing) 'The Defenders' I'll be giving this a miss. The third season of 'Daredevil' can't arrive quick enough. The only Marvel Netflix show worth bothering with at this point imo.

I'm about four or five episodes in and enjoying it so far. I found Maria Dillard/Stokes to be less than compelling last season, and unfortunately she's possibly worse so far. Not sure what the hell that Shades guy is supposed to be, but he sucks all of the atmosphere out of every scene he's in.

I really like the bushmaster character, Misty is great and it's always a pleasure to spend a little time with Colleen.:D

Bushmaster clearly isn't a fan of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly - When you have to shoot, shoot. Don't talk.

To me it is just frustrating and disappointing, since the show effectively encouraging a racial divide, in a period where the reverse is needed. Comments like keep harloom black is just cringe worthy, can you imagine if the reverse was said. Yes we know there is a racial problem that needs dealing with, but encouraging the divide is not helping.

I know you mean well and I don't want to go into this again (see Black Panther thread for more fun) but "if" it makes you feel uncomfortable then imagine living in this reality.

If you just don't understand, I get that too!
It's "less" of a problem in the larger cities in the UK (I am not saying there is no problem) because unlike the US we don't live in silos. So more people even from outside the culture can and do empathise.

The weird thing is that places like London, Manchester and Birmingham are much closer to the mythical melting pot than any US city. Don't mistake a city with a lot of immigrants as being a multicultural city in the sense that the cultures truly mingle and "live together" in the same communities.

When watching something alien, even if you enjoy it, you are always missing something. When I am watching shows in other languages, then unless I have lived in that culture or have family from there, I know that there are some cultural references, expressions and feelings that will pass me by. It's just sad that those from the dominant culture, living in the same country for hundreds of years with minorities are currently experiencing the same thing.

You misunderstand, i do understand it and have experienced it, but understanding it doesn't make it right. It is a really difficult conversation to have without sounding racist, so i won't push the point. All i am going to say is that by creating divides in a society, you create two sides that don't feel comfortable around each other, and that results in fear and well we all know where that ends (sounds like a Yoda speech). Take a look at pre-WW2 and German had the jewish communities that were seen to be separate from the other people of the city and rich, the rest is history. Integration has to be a 2 way thing.

Anyhow, too heavy for this site, let's just focus on the tv shows problems, which is bullet proof heroes provide no sense of risk and so you don't really care about him. Same problem superman has. In any TV show you know the heroes will win the day, but at least there is a chance they won't.

      First of all thanks.

Secondly, I know what you are trying to say, but it completely misses the point. Removing race from Luke Cage is like removing jewishness from Schindlers List. It makes no sense.

Third, the situation is what it is, nothing new is being created because the bad situation is already here. The fact that you think you can make it worse shows that you still don't get it.

Finally, whether you realise it or not, your definition of integration is really "how does the minority integrate into the dominant culture?" Difference is not a problem that needs to be solved. Integration should not be the goal, community should be the goal.

Anyway thanks again for your reply. Peace :)

Having been in the US last week, I can very much see the need for racially motivated content to continue to be produced there... It's a very uncomfortable place as soon as you scratch the surface - which I must admit I really wasn't expecting. Made me very sad :(

Having not seen S2 of Luke Cage I cannot comment on the specifics of that series and whether or not it gets it "right"... But a lot of different cultures and ethnicities continue to need to be challenged and supported in order to break down the prejudice that is still prevalent in our societies.

No problems. Art and entertainment can be consumed on various levels depending on the intent of the artist. Nothing being discussed here is outside the remit of the show as I'm sure has already been verified by its stars, writers and producers.

For those of us interested on the "slightly" deeper levels (only slightly because it is a Marvel TV show after all), I see no problem in having a civil discussion. For the rest, enjoy, learn, ignore.....same difference.

Fun with a li'l education can still be fun :)

I totally understand buddy, we all view the world differently and share with our opinions and thoughts. Like everyone else, I see stuff that I dont like but to someone else its acceptable.
Politics, religion, sexually and color will always raise a debate.
Look at the currently Hollywood scene and the push for LGBT and more color on our screens, we may not see that in our daily lives sometimes but the world is changing rapidly....
      Always good fun :D

Only a few episodes left to go now. I've really enjoyed this second season, there's been no lag midway through, and some jaw dropping moments along the way.

It's a slower pace, but for me that suits the show. I've also come round to Alfre Woodard's Mariah Stokes, especially in episodes 9 and 10! Shades though, nope, sorry. Not sure what Theo Rossi thinks he's channeling, but I just can't take him seriously.

      Sweet Christmas :rotfl:

I'm up to ep.8 and yes it is steady but it is still very enjoyable - I'm not finding myself bored or distracted.

It's not up there with the superb Punisher but its a welcome relief after my brain being mashed by Westworld o_O
