I don't think they put out directions just for a new Mario game. Just try going to your local games store. They probably have some there.

Sorry, to busy playing the game to post pointless replies to the likes of you young man!

Wink Wink:p

Completed it two weeks ago with all 120 Shines (on import) - a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I'm just sad that it's over :(.

I have no doubt Mario Sunshine is a great Platform game, but in Europe at least Platform games seem to have completly gone out of favour with the general public after the SNES/Megadrive days and delluge of dire platform games (very dark days in my opinion).

I personally detest all platform/RPG/adventure games and platform games no longer seem popular with the mainstreem public.

I have no doubt if Nintendo had an equal to GT3 or CMR3 they would be up there with Sony in terms of console sales. However there current lineup of titles while top quality simply do not appeal to the 'average' person on the street.

Someone whos not interested in games will stop and watch a realistic looking game like GT3 or MGS2 but will simply ignore a 'cartoon' game like mario sunshine. This is why Playstation 1 and 2 are so succesful.

add to this games like Pro Evo Soccer and Nintendo are too specialist.

The average Joe on the street also thinks that Dixons and Curry's are good places to buy things and get fed crap by the shop assistants. This is the real reason why those consoles are more popular! :p

TBH I always thought the European markets were stupid, my mates are the same, they sit and play some absolute pile of ****e racing game like NASCAR or F1 2002 for hours and hours. Mention to them anything, which requires a little bit of thought and skill and they break out in a sweat.

Anyway, all the big posts about Mario were made when it came out on import, so the discussion is a bit cold.

BTW.... anyone seen the review of Blinx on X-Box over on Gamespot..... The mario killer got called a pile of ****e... heheheheehe

Just got an X-Box installed at work, they set it up with PGR, suffice to say no one has played it.

Although I do wish I had my PS2 back to play Kingdom Hearts.

Bash that Xbox!! Dare I say that racing games require more skill than platformers.

Xbox Magazine gave it 9.3, IGN 8.8. Just to add gamespot gave mario 8.0 and EGM gave starfox 4.3(hehehehe as you put it) I think. What does that tell ya, sweet fa.

ordered it from gameplay , got it thurs mornin

Just because the average joe are not as informed as die hards and therefore go for a PS2 does not mean the PS2 does not have great games.

The PS2 has a lot of crap but more AAA games than any other console.

The success of the PS2 is that it has AAA games in every genra you can imagine. The Gamecube on the other hand only has good platform games and the Xbox good FPS and driving games.

No other console has the general widespread quality of the PS2.

BTW I think there is more skill required for a realistic driving game than a platformer.

I simply do not see the appeal in playing a platformer for hours on end to find the last star or whatever it is you need to collect.

Yaaaawwwwnnnn......the same old arguement rages on.

The thread started out innocently enough but as expected, has descended into utter childhood drivel.

well said that man!

Give them the cold truth!

A few points here as I'm just off to work....

I simply do not see the appeal in playing a driving game for hours on end to find the last car/course or whatever it is you need to collect.

If I wanted super-realism I'd go out of the house and look around, get in my car, etc.

Whilst no-one would deny most in-house Nintendo titles are cute looking, don't forget that all games are simply escapism, when you make comment about some hardcore driving game you shouldn't forget that they it's just a game (=escapism).

The PS2 has 'The Third Place', surely some sort of reference to this...

I've got Ralli-Sport Challenge on the X-Box, it look great and drives well, (don't post the % rating for it from some magazine I don't read please), but it doesn't fulfil my need for escapism. Maybe 10 years ago, it would have, it's a personal thing.

If something annoys you that's great, cos at least you have an opinion, but don't flame others opinions of what they enjoy, implying that they are wrong and you are right. It's antagonistic and childish, and probably reflects on you in the real world.

So let's all get along shall we...

(I sound like some old git, scary)
(Don't you dare comment)

groundy i i i i i cant hhhhhhelp it, they making me say itttttttttt. please forgive me, nnnnno i cant.......... i must......

racing games what the hell is the point of driving round 4 or five tracks endlessly? i mean it really is dull, ive had more fun sitting at the front of the bus and willing the driver to go the wrong way under some low bridge.

damn i tried to resist.... the force is weak in this one

cmr, is a good title which will also come out for the gamecube, i remember a few months ago that codemasters once said that they have announced a few bunch of titles due out this year if not next, for the gamecube and one of theses titles was a spceial edition colin mcrae rally3, even though i have a ps2 and a gc, i know the gamecube is a better console but developers are not given it the titles it needs except for capcom and a few second party developers, lets hope that the coming months nintendo new big announcement would be more exclusive games from manco, sega capcom or even konami??? who knows
or i think that it could be a new franchise as miyamoto said that nintendo will release a new franchise next year so it could either be that or???

also go to www.nintendofire.com nintendo are set to increase their budject for advertising in the christimas period, read on the site for an in dept analysis but nintendo said that by new years eve they will have the most titles which will relate to the teens and hardcore gamer (adults) i presum looks like nintendo are gonna get to the tope agian i just hope that they have a super nes day galore again.
Why dont they make super nes 2 after the gamecube so people would be at more interest when a new nintendo console come out

I'm not saying driving/realistic games are better than platformers etc. just that those who have not grown up with videogames are attracted to realistic looking games.

This is why older newcomers to games buy PS2s rather than a Gamecube.

Later on they may play more abstract games but the initial attraction is realism right or wrong.

Nintendo are very successful with there current policy and therefore are not concerned with matching the PS2 like for like with games/online play etc.

With there very different strategies Nintendo fans should not expect the Gamcube or any Nintendo console to match PS2/PS3 sales.

While some Nintendo fans claim the PS2 has boring, generic games (which I think is totaly wrong) it is the PS2 that is starting to attract more abstract and niche products such as Rez, Project Zero, Parrapa the Rapper etc. This is only possible due to the large installed user base that can support these types of titles.

BTW I would drive my car instead of playing a driving game IF I had a Mclaren F1. Unfortunatley I don't and so driving one in a videogame is a bigger fantasy than any platformer could possibly hope to match. LOL

then buy one of those track days... you can't possibly consider driving games as fantasy.

Track days are indeed the ultimate for a petrolhead but at at least £75 plus tyres it's very expensive.

I love racing games but barely ever race in them, I can sit on the same track in time trial mode and do about 50 laps over and over trying to get my time down. I can then compete against others with my time. That to me is fun.

Just to add, to do a competetive lap you need 100% concentration for the whole lap, lose it for a split second and the lap is runined. I think the top time trialers for games like gpl and even gt3 etc. are IMO the most skilled gamers.

Completly agree. I'm a car fan first and videogames are a way to indulge in my passion, along with driving real cars going to motor races etc.

I rarely race in driving games. If I do its usually just to unlock cars and tracks. To perfect a lap in something like GT3 takes great skill and is my idea good fun. Of course its not the same for everyone but then not everyone has a passion for cars.

I love cars too but all I'm saying is that I drive mine everyday (yes it is a Ferrari 360 and yes I do own my own track:D ;) ) so it's not really that much escapism for me, which IMO is the whole reason for games and movies.

By the way I got Mario Sunshine yesterday and gave it a quick blast last night... what a FANTASTIC game!

My fault for dragging the conversation back into the old argument.... guilty as charged. :p

Got Super Mario yesterday, as i had a day off work got stuck into it. WOW!! So much more than what I expected, looks cutesy but the difficulty is just right. On about 20 shines and already have to had to replay some levels about 10 times (some of those secrets require reall thought and skill).

On the racing game front, some require skill F355, Grand Prix series on PC and Colin Mcrae. Others require a minimum amount of skill to complete F1 series, GT 1,2 & 3 (blast me on this if you want, but all you end up doing is playing the same low end race over and over until you soup up your car, personally I always played it with a pants car to make it harder), NASCAR.

I think Wipeout 2097 was the pinnacle of skill driving games. However, you compare the skill of those driving games to the skill of a platformer like Mario and to me there is no comparison. (But DomH we tend to disagree on most matters gaming related :p )

As far as the most skilled gamers go, it makes little difference what genre they are playing. It is all about concentration and game they are playing, the only time a huge amount of skill comes into is when you play other humans. Good driving games take a lot of skill, I don't disagree with that, however bad driving games (which sell a lot in the European markets and are the ones my mates play) do not require skill.

You could thrash me on GT3, but I could beat you on Tony Hawkes, both require skill and concentration in multiplayer. For completing against the machine or lap requirements does not always necessarily need skill.
