    Hi...

Just got my Gallo sub setup and I want to get a stone slab to go underneath it.. what I am after is some advice as to which material to go for?

Also is anyone has any opinions on the type/colour/thickness please let me know as well..

Finally for those ppl with slabs.. do you put them directly on the carpet/wooden floor or are u using spike/rubber etc etc between them..

    Thanks

    Matt

Marble, looks and density being the deciding factors. Shouldn't need spikes unless you have the world nastiest synthetic carpet. Some isolation would probably be necessary if used on a floorboard floor, though Parque (sp?) should be alright. About an inch thickness of marble should do the trick.

Grantie is also good, concrete would only be appropriate if no-one who cares has to look at it. You'll need a lot thicker blocks of concrete though.

Most people can't tell the difference between marble and granite but your decision might be based on the color you choose.
Granite is usually cheaper than marble and I do have a few slabs under my speakers and rack (match my floor), all custom made at reasonable prices (material + polishing).

The speakers and rack are on spikes while I put some rubber feet under the slab itself so it won't scratch my floor (only the visible surfaces are polished).

You could pop down to "Medway Marble" in ParkWood and see what off cut they have that'll do the job Matt.

    How's the Gallo anyway?

Slate slab, 16" square and 30mm thick £30! denser than both granite and marble. No spikes... it's so heavy it doesn't need anymore bedding in. Absolutely no resonance to it, sonically dead. perfect for the job.

Don't forget you'll want to buy a THX approved slab, and allow it to "burn-in"
