Hi,

I am thinking of buying a Receiver for my DVD player(Tos 210E). My budget is 300 pounds and I have short listed 3 rceivers(Marantz, Kenwood Sony). Can somebody advice me which one is better? Are there any other makes which fall into my budget?

    Cheers

I'm not sure about the other brandas but I can suggest you look at the Sony recievers that have replaced the 940. The STRDB1070 and STRDB870 are 470 and 380 repectively at EmpireDirect.co
The 870 (which is closer to you price bracket) has Virtual 6.1 and is a beautiful unit. I beleive the Virtual 6.1 and newer model is worth a little extra over the 940.
I have the 1070 so I may be biased - but I think the Sony stuff is awesome.

Hi I have the Sony str-db940 and Im well happy with it,you should be able to pick one of these up a bit cheaper now the new range is out.

I've had a Kenwood in the past and wasn't impressed one bit,I even sold it at a massive loss, they just dont have it(something is missing).

Get yourselve down to the shops m8 and have a listen for yourself you might like the sound from the Marantz/Kenwood more than me.

    cheers Steve

Both the Kenwood and the Marantz have just been reviewed in What HIFI, so take a look at the Oct issue.

I was thinking of buying the Kenwood and hadn't really looked at the Marantz but the Kenwood gets a really bad review and the Marantz wins the roundup getting a brill review for both Surround sound and Musical abillity.

I am personally thinking of getting the Marantz to accompany my 210E. Either that or the Yamaha DSP-AX620, which is about £50 more. But the Marantz looks damn good.

PERSONALLY I HAVE FOUND THE SONY STRD940 TO BE A GREAT BUY - AFTER ALL THE MAGS WERE RAVING ABT THESE RECEIVERS (AND THE 840) NOT SO LONG AGO AND AT THE RICHER SOUNDS PRICE OF 300 QUID YOU CAN'T REALLY GO WRONG - I HAVE A QUESTION MYSELF ABT
POSSIBLE CROSSOVER PROBLEM IN A QUESTION I POSTED SHORT TIME AGO BUT THEIR MIGHT BE SIMPLE EXPLANATION TO THIS SO NOT UNDULY WORRIED

    GOOD LUCK

I'm with hobbes_vin. I'd test the Yam and Marantz. ProLogic 2 on the Marantz is swinging it for me.
