    Setup:
    1. AV-receiver: Marantz SR-7500
    2. DVD HD-recorder: Panasonic DMR-EH50 (not hooked up yet)
    3. DVD player: Sony DVP-NS400D (currently in use)
    4. CD player: Philips CDC-935.
    5. Speakers: Klipsch 35-series (surround).

    Action:
I want to establish a digital connection between (1), and (3) and (4).
    - (3) has to be defined as such. Done.
    - (4) manual doesn't mention it at all, so I'm assuming the device will detect a digital connection when and if plugged in.
Note: if someone has a compelling argument to not to digitally connect a CD-player, pls let me know. I've noticed various opinions on this subject.
    Connecting cable: COAX.

    Problem:
When setting up the receiver (1) for digital inputs from CD and DVD, indication is 'no data', i.e. no digital signal is received. Analog connection works for (4) but I didn't try that for (3); after all, that's not what I bought an AV-receiver plus surround speaker set for.
Talked to my dealers (in NL) but got nowhere. So, after many wasted hours, I'm sort of stuck.

    Help:
Would anyone have an idea how to fix this? Thanks in advance.

    Rob.

I have an older Denon amp and that doesn't auto detect the inputs and defaults to analogue if not told otherwise in the menu.
